That knife is almost eight years old, it was 0.019" as-boxed. I selected it specifically as it was very close to the XM-18 in most respects and wanted to see if anyone could actually find a use for the XM-18 which could not be done with the Delica, no one did. That doesn't mean it doesn't exist, but it just isn't obvious.Ankerson wrote:Interesting, kinda thick for a Delica, even the sabre grind ones from what I have seen over the years, usually in the .025" range, FFG ones are slightly thinner in the .020" range.
It was also selected just as a reference point that someone could use to break it to evaluate scope. If you wanted to do something with the XM-18 but didn't want to risk it, then use the Delica first and if it was ok then do it with the XM-18, if the Delica broke when we could discuss it before the XM-18 was used.
I did think it amusing that I had to pick one of the most overbuilt Spyderco's to match the most underbuilt Hinderer which kinds of says something obvious about the intended scopes of work in general. But different people want different things from knives.
The individual who bought it noted it was thinner ground than he expected. I also had the same thought when I mic'ed it because it isn't over built compared to most folders outside of Opinels and such. It might be a real trend or might just be random variance. Few people are actually mic'ing knives, and thus +/- 0.005" isn't uncommon as a spread, that is visually a very tiny difference. Also kinda thin for the XM-18 even with the slicer grind ...
