Not living in the land of Regret just yet GSO, I am living in the land of Hope. As in "I hope" a sporting good store has a 70 percent off sale of all of their old and discontinued Spydercos." Dang it Bob clear em out especially the ones they made for sprinters, the weird coloured ones and those ones that glow in the dark ... probably radioactive for all I know". This is land where I am currently residing.GSO wrote:Try not to hold regrets, DRKBC. It's just not healthy for us in this hobby.
Many wonders have come and gone, but many more are yet to come. Spyderco delivers time and time again.

The Millie is a model I have yet to buy. Although it is one of those knives that everyone seems to love, I am just having a hard time getting my brain around the size.senorsquare wrote:Yeah, I did the same with the Military. I had always put off buying one because I didn't really feel the need for a 4" folder. I finally bought one a couple of weeks ago and now I get why people love them so much. I hate that I have missed out on all the sprints that have come and gone. D'oh!! I really, really wish I hadn't missed the boat on the M4 Millie, but I'm hoping I can at least get a Cruwear model as consolation.
Until you get one, handle it and use it, especially with gloves. Then it all make sense.DRKBC wrote:The Millie is a model I have yet to buy. Although it is one of those knives that everyone seems to love, I am just having a hard time getting my brain around the size.
It is actually quite light in the hand. Seriously, I'd take a Military XL.
At least you have a local store with spydies. My local store (about 40 miles drive) went out of business few month ago.DRKBC wrote: As in "I hope" a sporting good store has a 70 percent off sale of all of their old and discontinued Spydercos.
My first impression from Military was:"This knife is huge". I am not up to little knives. My EDC vary from Kopa to Persian. And Mily still in "huge" category for me. It is a great knife: ergos, very light, still I cannot picture myself carrying this folding pocket sword.DRKBC wrote:Although it is one of those knives that everyone seems to love, I am just having a hard time getting my brain around the size.

I used to think about all the sprints Ive missed either because they came out before I was into knives or because it was a pain getting them shipped to Canada. Lately Id have to say it doesnt bother me near as much as it used to though. I still keep an eye out for new sprint announcements and Im sure I'll end up with several more as they're released but I dont worry about the ones Ive missed much any more.

I sort of do ... it is a bit of a work around in that regard. We have a local dealer who sells for maybe 10 percent off of full list on a good day (I feel guilty about even going in there cause I know there is not a snowballs chance I will buy) and then we have a really competitive dealer with lots of stock 400 kilometres away. So it is a little dysfunctional.
I think I might be on the same page as you pocket sword :D kind of describes it for me too. That said, I get what Ball an Senorsquare are saying, I am going to take a look next time I am at the other dealer but I don't think I will just gamble and order this model just yet.bh49 wrote:My first impression from Military was:"This knife is huge". Well, the Millitary is a large knife and one that I would be reluctant to brandish in polite company (...the damsel gasped as he deployed his enormous blade  ..) but for utility work it's tough to beat.DRKBC wrote:I think I might be on the same page as you pocket sword :D kind of describes it for me too. My local store is NGK and it's about a 2 hour drive to really be able to handle and purchase a wide selection of spydies.bh49 wrote:At least you have a local store with spydies. My local store (about 40 miles drive) went out of business few month ago.

That's a serious road trip, we have a store that has a decent selection near by but at $270 for a Sage2 ... I have no idea how they ever sell a knife. The guy there told me they don't discount because their prices are already super competitive ... as compared to maybe ah Europe???BAL wrote:I have a Cabelas an hour or so away, but they only carry the delica, endura and maybe

it is much less in miles :)DRKBC wrote:then we have a really competitive dealer with lots of stock 400 kilometres away. So it is a little dysfunctional.
There is simple solution for that. Place pre-order on-line for the next sprint. You like it - you keep it. You do not like it, sell after sprint sold out and will get your money back. You can even make some money, but you will need to wait at least couple years. Not always worth it. Or in few years may be your son will be interested. :) I gave my son the first knife, when he was seven (it wasn't Military though). :) Your daughter is almost there.DRKBC wrote: I am going to take a look next time I am at the other dealer but I don't think I will just gamble and order this model just yet.

Very true, only 240 miles its closer than I thought :)bh49 wrote:it is much less in miles :)
No son in my life yet but my daughter has shown an interest, for her it would be either Ladybug3 Tattoo or one in a pretty color preferably purple :)bh49 wrote:There is simple solution for that. You adjust. Think of how big your kitchen knives are. I'm not crazy about how long the handle is but I can't say a single bad thing about the ergonomics.DRKBC wrote:The Millie is a model I have yet to buy. Most knives I'm on the fence for, I try to handle them first and that's usually enough to sway my opinion one way or the other. When I first handled the Military, all I could think about was how big that handle was. Probably 3 years went by, and one day I was at the knife shop for no reason at all and saw this standard S30V Military looking back at me in the case. I decided...screw it, I'm not even going to handle it again, I bought it right there and took it home. It wasn't through using it that I finally "got it". Aesthetics are one thing, and they're important, but performance is one of the few things that outweigh aesthetics to me, and for what it's worth it's not like the Military is ugly or anything. Still, I REALLY hope that the Military 2 comes out with a more balanced handle to blade ratio. I hope they can apply the same techniques to the Military as they did the Paramilitary and squeeze out another half inch or so of blade like they did on the Para 2, then they can leave the handle as big as it is.DRKBC wrote:I know your right, I think its just the size of that size handle in relation to me.
