I've always felt that the Urban Wharncliffe looked a lot like a Swick, at least in terms of blade shape. Handle not so much but if it's the blade you like, check it out.

gbelleh wrote:After considering the boxcutter idea, maybe it wouldn't be so hard to make. I'm not sure about the design feasibility, but take a G-10 Byrd Meadowlark (or Tern, or similar), and fit it with a modified "blade" that accepts disposable razors. It should be able to sell for a similar price to other Byrd knives. Only a new blade would need to be designed, and existing tooling and materials could be used for the handle. It could be the "Byrd Box-Lark" or something. Quality would be better than most box cutters, but could still be relatively inexpensive. Just an idea...
The Byrd Pigeon.

Well, since the title says "things", here are some that I would love to see Spyderco offer:
A series of 12oz and 16oz ceramic mugs with artwork based on some of their posters and catalog covers. - Darn near everyone here enjoys a hot beverage of some kind.
A web belt with repeats of the :spyder: logo and/or the Spyderco name on the webbing. - Inexpensive, and one size fits **** near everyone.
A military style roller buckle for web belts with the :spyder: logo etched, or better yet, mounted on it as an overlay. Can be used with the above, or with any other web belt.
An updated version of the brass Spyderco belt buckle, perhaps a bit larger this time.
A knit beanie with :spyder: logos all over it, rather than just a single one in front.
A bandana with :spyder: logos all over it.
A light blue denim :spyder: logo baseball cap.

Also, a Gayle Bradley with DLC. Coated M4. Ysplz.
(...and a CF Manix2/Manix2 XL. When they announced the black-blade Manix2 XL, the first thing I thought was "UGH SO CLOSE WHY NO CF")

Comeuppance wrote:Yeah, but a Yojimbo retails for $120+ and needs to be sharpened. A utility knife would probably be roughly $40 and have interchangable blades. I hate hate hate cleaning tape off of a knife, so I always carry a boxcutter in addition to my Endura Wave/Manix.
I discovered that a little oil of any kind gets the goo off quite nicely. I hate the tape and goo, too. Try it. You'll be amazed.
- best wishes, Jazz.

I would like Spyderco to produce more diving knives, and rerun the Aqua Salt series, and, make a knife that has an Endura like blade on one end and a pair of folding scissors/shears on the other.

I'd like a Spydie with a semi-wharncliffe blade profile similar to the PPT but with the edge enough below the handle when held to enable use on a cutting board. It would be an all-around camp knife, including food prep - FFG blade, compression or back lock, plastic or G10 handle. A semi-warncliffe blade in a Superleaf would be another close way to think of it, but I would want thinner blade stock than the Superleaf uses.
I'd also like a Dyad with PE knife and saw.

A few things about utility/razor knives :
-a Yojimbo 2 or any other existing knife is not a replacement at all
-you can buy very high end blades for them, bi-metal, HSS, ultra-sharp (double beveled), etc. .
-they are the most common knife that tradespeople use
-the most common complaint is that they are not trivial to carry and are often lost/misplaced
On work sites, one of the most frequent comments about the knives I carry is how I often have it on me, that it is trivial to draw and use unlike most of those style of knives. The downside to using a folding knife though is that you have to be willing to :
-break off the point (it just happens, utility use)
-severely wear/damage the edge (shingles, etc.)
Thus most people will not use anything but a very cheap folder if that is what they carry and those are subject to lock and general construction issues.
The problem with higher end folders are that they are ground far too thick to compete cutting wise with the razor/utility knives. On some materials a full reground and zero edge blade will cut well but try to cut very thick foam and similar materials and the very slim (fraction of a mm) utility blades will be much further ahead.
As to how many people would buy a Spyderco utility blade, no idea, but there are piles of cheap ones available, even folding and with clips.

I would love to see a Spyderco machete. 18" high carbon steel blade with a wood or G-10 handle. Maybe make a deluxe edition out of D2.

+1. I am tired of buying aftermarket clips. I want one with a bug on it!

"Special Projects" division, with different name, kinda along lines of what Cold Steel does, but better!
You could make, heavy duty umbrellas, tactical pen (large masculine), cane/walking sticks, and all sorts of cool stuff, neck whips etc. But keep it real, don't get too hokey like the others guys did!

- Multi-knife, tiered display stands
- Alternative replacement knife scales for select models (I know it will void the warranty but...)
- Spydie Pizza cutter
- Spydie Drink Coasters made out of S30V
- Larger Jester (ie. 2.5-3")
