at work i pulled out my Manix2XL (in jest) when someone was giving me crap about something or other and he just said "just like a dumb wop to bring a knife to a gun fight" he is into guns..lol.

Thank you for the interesting stories. A friend of mine used to take his knife out all the time to pick up some ladies and he was pretty sure it would work and he'd look masculine and strong in front of them.
As you may already have guessed the ladies only called him a freak and stepped back is fear.
It was so funny when I saw it with my own eyes :)

There is a no weapons policy in the office where I work, so I honor it and leave
my guns in the truck. However, I currently have a Camo Para 2, a Yojimbo 2 and
Endura in my pocket now at the office. I consider them tools, not weapons.
Like many other tools, you can defend yourself with one, but they are still tools
to me that I use each and every day.

As I am reaching for my driver;

Friend: You are a true effing redneck
Me: What?
Friend: The knife (native) and two cans of copenhagen in your pockets while playing golf, you never leave home without either.

Apparently it is odd to carry a knife while playing golf.

On a Sunday morning:

I firmly belief it is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. Am I the only one who carries a knife to church?

Nope :D

Now that I think about it I have used a knife in public several times. My kids ask me to cut their straws shorter when we go to restaurants! Not my fault they don't have bendy straws for kids.

Nobody has ever said anything to me.....

Oops to be on topic, Umm my sister asked me what I have clipped to my pocket and I opened my civilian (Not as scary as the espada imo) but still pretty menacing. Her eyes just widened, and then she said that looks like something Dexter would carry haha.

Texas has a provision for carrying larger when you are camping/fishing etc, but yeah, I don't make a practice of carrying my machete around if I'm not camping etc :) .

Since my work has a more "reserved" environment (i.e. lots of sheeple) I *always* carry multiple knives, including an innocuous-looking Ladybug in case I need to cut something around other people. But when someone brought a watermelon the the company potluck luncheon, I let other people worry about how to cut it since a) I didn't have a pocketknife large enough to neatly cut the watermelon, and b) I didn't want to bring attention to the fact I had knives with me. Strange how people can be fine with having a kitchen knife to cut watermelon, but be alarmed if you are carrying a 1" pocket knife . Since my work has an official "no dangerous weapons" policy, I consider my knives as tools but don't want to give management any reason to explicitly define what a "dangerous weapon" consists of.

Fortunately my family is used to me always having multiple knives, and they just ask to see what my latest purchase is, they don't get alarmed.

I agree, I really want that espada XL because like the guy said in his review, if you pull that knife out it will deter violence because the person will back off. Can you carry any knife you want as long as it is just in your car?

Best to check local laws.

If a knife is illegal to carry it's likely illegal in your car. One of the few exceptions is if you're walking around with a large fixed blade while camping as it's use is more understandable. Otherwise it really (technically) should be within the law.

Carrying an Espada XL is in most places illegal on length alone. Brandishing it (or any knife) to "dissuade" violence might work and it might just get you arrested when the would-be bad guys report the guy who pulled a gigantic knife on them.

Like a gun it's best to pull a knife when you encounter odds that is likely to send you home in a pine box. If you don't have full intention it's best to use your Nike's.

Good advice Blerv!! Thanks! I was asking about the car thing because you can carry AR's etc in your car, but you can't carry them with you.

I don't want to break the law, because even if I defend my life with this tool, I will most likely go to jail for using it.

That is a common misconception that will get you or someone else killed.
While that may work out peachy in imagination land, in reality you pulling a knife on anyone has escalated your likely minor argument into a deadly encounter. The other person may flee, but more likely they will stand ground or counter your offering with their own weapon, within seconds the situation has spiralled out of control, at best your going to jail, at worst your dead.
Dont think that someone wont disarm you and use your own knife against you either, as blerv said if you find yourself in real danger you are best to evade and escape whenever possible.

Always best to check your local authorities :) . I would have a fixed blade hidden in my car someplace if I could. Sadly, it's illegal.

At work, nope. No "No weapon policy" at work to worry about. We have a completely different policy, we have gun lockers in the locker rooms and in our straight trucks and semi's. Only comment I ever got was on a household hazardous waste collection at a college. We had college kids sorting batteries to separate the Lithium ones from the rest. We got a milk jug full of batteries and they couldn't shake them out it was so full. I opened my CRKT Folding Razel (big FLAT non-pointy tip) and one girl says "He's got a machete!" I sliced the top off with ease and let them get too it.

I never get asked if I have a knife, they just say "knife"

It usually goes this way:

Ladybug ---> "That's cute"
Para-Military ---> "What you want that thing for?"
Military ---> "You frighten me"

At work today one of my fellow supervisors was on the radio screaming for a knife and screwdriver. One of the fuel lines on our vac trucks had cracked open leaking diesel all over the ground. As I was running over to him I told him I had both in my pocket. I got there, took out my Leatherman Skeletool, sliced the broken section of line off and then used the screwdriver to tighten the hose clamp on it.
He said, "We should get those for everyone."
Makes me feel like a super hero when out of 12 guys onsite I'm the only one with a tool to cut things.
