Best I could do with what I have so far----30 degree back bevel and 40 degree micro bevel on the sharpmaker. Used diamond, medium, fine, and finished with ultra fine. I need to get a strop and some compound!
Best photos I could take with my phone:

Thanks :Dchuck_roxas45 wrote:Yes, very nice result from the sharpmaker indeed.
I figure once I get a strop with green compound that should make even more of a mirrored finish, is that true???

Yo:
The green chromium oxide paste pans out at 0.5 micron, which is much, much finer than the Spyderco Sharpmaker Ultra Fine Rods - 0.5 microns = approx 30k grit - that is very fine, but will take many, many strokes per side for a mirror polish....especially if the deeper scratches from the previous grits were not completely removed.
Having said that, the issue is not so much the mirror relief bevel, but the actual cutting bevel - I would recommend that you focus your stropping efforts on that - to ultimate your edge sharpness...
:)
....just my 2c....

What would you recommend after the UF stone on my SM to get the best mirrored edge? :DMadRookie wrote:Yo:

You do not really want a mirror cutting edge for an EDC - you loose the bite....rg02 wrote:What would you recommend after the UF stone on my SM to get the best mirrored edge? :D
Only the relief edge on my M390 is mirror finished - the actual cutting edge (micro bevel) is finished much courser so that it still slices efficiently.
For final finish, strop with the Chromium Oxide, but raise the angle ever so slightly to ensure that you are hitting the very edge of the edge.
A 0.5 micron edge finish is scary, screaming sharp - you don't need more...
:)

Still working with the factory edge on mine and it seems to be holding up really well. Once it needs to be re-worked it's game on!

It was done on sandpaper to 2000 grit, then done with 7u, 5u, 2.5u, and 0.5u paste on paper the same thickness as teh sandpaper.
The back is at im guessing 13-14 degrees per side , really dont know, the microbevel is lansky medium ceramic crocksticks(I guess 600-800 grit) at 17 degrees a side, refines on a 0.5u strop. It has teeth, and splits hair. :) . Im not a very big fan of polished cutting edges , the only knife I do a polished edge on is my SB caly cause that seems to like that edge more and holds its bite
[img][/IMG]I spent a little more time on this one [img][/IMG] I got to buy a sharpmaker.
I do all my edges free hand with a spyderfile kit.
