Glad the surgery apparently went well for you Tony. Be sure and do your PT so you get full use back!

Tony, Tony, Tony.

Sorry so tardy for the party -- but sounds like things are coming along fine. HEAL UP QUICK!! ;) ;)

I've got titanium implants in my cervical spine immobilizing and fusing C-4,5; C-5,6; and C-6,7.
More surgery is in my future, but the VAMC wants to go with three series of very tricky spinal injections over a 9 month period first.... and there's so much nerve damage and scarring that they can't just inject the aforementioned sites directly afflicting pain, numbness, muscle weakness in the arms and hands (no over- head strength btw) and all my nervous system strike reflexes are completely gone from both my arms; hands; knees, ankles, etc. on both sides of my body (from Years past to now) ....the arms and shoulders from just below chest level on up..... more importantly dexterity problems are increasing 'as the world turns'... all starting just below the particular affected damage @ C-7 and T-1 ......on up to C-3; 4.
The docs are hoping the steroidal spine injections will somehow seep up through the scarring and nerve damage from below @ the lowest. This particular strategy has a very low success rate / unknown prognosis over the period of these upcoming 9 month, with the deep cervical spine injections to ostensibly draw up in to the permanently damaged areas -- kinda like a wick on a Zippo.

Titanium plates and screws to my R hand from a martial arts 'accident' if you will, -- many years past.
- Double compound fracture to the 4th and 5th metacarpal and $7600.00 for that some years back.

I'm SOOOO much better even at this point in time since the initial 5 1/2 hour, 55,000.00 dual neurosurgical team excursion back to better physicality.

Sorry for the slight digression here. Just brought back a bunch of old and painful memories.

GOOD LUCK TONY / Bruce / SB

I've been away for a few days as well, so didn't see this thread until now. I hope that the surgery went well and that you're healing up fine. Take care of yourself!

Hi Tony,
Just went online for the first time in a while, and Your Post was the first that I saw. I was very sorry to hear the problems that You are having, so
I wish You a speedy recovery, as You are a very integral part of this forum!
Bal remarked that You are a pretty tough Guy, and I would have to agree.
Anybody that can do what You do has to be. I know that You have seen some pretty messed up situations on the Job, and if You could handle that, this should be a piece of cake! :)
Look at what Bruce wrote, no way You can be as messed up as that, and look at Him now! Proving that no matter how bad You have it, some one always has it worse!

Please keep us updated with Your progress, and get better in a hurry!
Just another concerned KnifeBro,
Charlie

thanks guys, the pain is pretty much gone as long as i dont move my arm much and the splint is helping me in that respect. Bruce, after reading what you have been thru, it reminded me of that joke where an owner is putting up lost signs. he is looking for his lost 3 legged, one eye, hairless and both ears chewed off dog, answers to the name of Lucky :p . i feel for you but from you have mentioned it is getting better so that is good. there wasnt too much more room for it to get worse from the sound of it :D

again, thx everybody. i am finally out of that silly sling and bandages. It was itching something fierce. no stitches, just some superglue and steristrips. i guess since it was immobilized there wasnt a need for them. the doc said that the tendons looked all diseased. they cut out the bad parts and sewed the remaining good parts together.i can tell because right now i cant extend my arm completely straight or pull it in all the way. therapy starts next week  again, thanks for the well wishes.

Tony,
It is good to hear that you are recovering. Take physical therapy seriously. It will help a lot.
Best wishes,
