Newest Spyderco
i'm regretting not pulling the trigger on several caly jrs on forums a couple months back. Now i'm not finding them anywhere for the past month or so.. I google search discussion boards once awhile to see if anyone is selling.
Anyone have any suggestions on where to look? or any idea if they will bring them back, maybe in more colors? :')

WOW, awesome birthday. You must have something going right.justinrose40 wrote:My Birthday was a couple weeks ago and all I ask for were knifes, I got more than what I deserved or expected. I got a Gray FRN Delica FFG, a Salt 1, camo Para-Military 2 bb, and a camo Military bb.
I love the Para-Military and want to carry it every day, but so far I have not been able to lay the salt 1 down. It's so light, and I work at a lake so the H-1 steel is a perfect match, don't have to worry about drying it off all the time or oiling it every night if I get it wet. All four knives will get plenty of pocket time, but so far the Salt is winning out.
Caly3.5 SB
My Caly3.5 Super Blue came in yesterday and Spyderco has yet again made me a happy camper.
I dawdled getting it (paid a higher price to KC than if I had gone earlier to CS), but all the good talk in other threads about its carbon steel finally made me pull the trigger.
This Caly is my first, although I do have a UKPK (two actually) on which the Caly3 is modeled. Being familiar with the UKPK, I must say I was not prepared for the 3.5's pointiness. NKP might find it downright intimidating, but, while I tend to prefer broader leaf-shapes, I do like this blade's proportions. If it screams stabber, it screams slicer more loudly. I've already whittled some hardwoods and can still shred paper and pop hair with the factory's edge.
The friction I initially felt and heard in the pivot, whether from grit or from surfaces not yet adjusted to each other, was easily resolved with KryTech (as it was with the Chaparral I got last month). Except for a loud and satisfying click on lockup, I can no longer feel or hear resistance when I open the blade.
I do detect the slightest upward play in the blade when it is locked open, which I understand afflicts some backlocks, but I actually had to go looking for it. BTW, there is no coining on the backspring.
The blade does have a cloudy patch that runs about an inch and a half lengthwise under Sal's mark. I don't know if it's patina or some blemish beneath the factory-polished surface. As I haven't yet decided whether to let the blade oxidize naturally (as I'm doing with my M4 Manix2), I'll try to rub this patch away with compound and learn something about the steel in the process.
I'm glad to have gotten in on this sprint of the Caly line.

Para 2 Black Blade arrived today. I had originally intended on getting the regular blade, but I found the BB shipped for about $20 cheaper than the regular blade before shipping, so I couldn't pass up that price. I know that the BB can potentially show scratches a lot more, but I plan on using the ish out of this knife and welcome the scars.

Thanks, Jack.jackknifeh wrote:wrdwrght,
The Cally 3.5 with a super blue blade really sounds like a great knife. Congratulations on getting it.

And congratulations on the Chaparral. Its bigness in a small package will amaze you.jackknifeh wrote:I'm going to have to think of something else for me to get for Christmas. It was going to be a Chaparral but I screwed that up by ordering it about 30 minutes ago. :D Maybe I can get some socks for Christmas! :D :D
Speaking of dogs. My wife left the house last night and came home with an enormous dog. White fur about medium length. It's a Great Pyrenese (if the spelling is right). I've never heard of it before. He is 10 months old. It didn't even eat one of the cats in our house though, dangit! @*&. :)

And congratulations on the dog. It may not have eaten your cats but feeding that big package may eat your Spydie money! Is that why you're looking at socks for Christmas?

With the new horse (I mean dog) in the house I figured I'd better get the Chaparral now, before even socks become un-affordable. :Dwrdwrght wrote: And congratulations on the Chaparral. Its bigness in a small package will amaze you.
