That's exactly what I thought Chris, and I like it as well. I would be afraid to do that myself, but i like the regular digicam. I would proably buy anything in digicam.

I'm thinking of trying RIT on a knife with pinned construction, so I cannot remove the G10 scales. Anyone have experience immersing the entire knife into the dye solution and the effect on all metal parts? From what I'm reading here the powdered RIT requires the addition of salt to the solution which concerns me.

I dyed mine with no salt :eek:

I don't think the pinned metal parts will be affected... Just dry it really well... The paper clips I used were not affected by the dye at all

Started out as a Foliage Green CTS-XHP model.

Don't know if I'm catching the true color (Royal Blue) with my crappy cell phone camera, but I'm too lazy to get out the good camera and try and get some better lighting, so this is all you get:












Going to be a user now - pretty happy with it overall. Removed the scales, used Royal Blue liquid RIT (because no one in my entire stupid county had the powder in orange -that's what I originally wanted to do) and put them on a couple of wire-coat-hanger make-shift holders and boiled a pot of water with the liquid Dye and some salt. Then set the pot to simmer and put the scales in with the hanger (washed with dish soap first and handled with rubber gloves to prevent oils from coming into contact with the scales). Rinsed afterward and oiled with some CLP Break-Free (because it's what I had handy), and it looked pretty darn good (I think - at least for my first time). About 1 hour of work and I had some Royal-blue (almost purple) scales.

EZ-Bake, that looks real good to me. it makes me want to give royal blue a try on my M4 manix2.

question: how long ago did you dye the scales? i'm interested in long term durability of the dye.

I dyed it for about 20 minutes or so. It seems to be holding up pretty well so far with rubbing and scratching just to test it out.

I rit dyed my Foliage Barong royal blue. Even without subjection to water, it will wear some. Under the bend of the pocket clip it is still fairly bright blue, but everywhere else it has faded to a darker denim color like sun bleached carpet. Foliage is showing through on edges.

Basically, Rit is not permanent and a blue will never quite have the bright quality of the blue G10 of Manix, Sage, Para 2. Once I have the time I'll pick up some abrasives and a mask and learn to mill G10; that's the only lasting solution.

Haven't worked up the uh, fortitude to try the Paramilitary yet, I've done a good bit of FRN though.

I have a set of .080 white G-10 to fit a good size folder.
But after my experience with white G-7, I am putting off the white G-10 for a while.

Not sure if it's the recommended procedure, but he didn't take either knife apart to dye them.
