Water + lemon juice. At MAX on stove... remove from stove... put hot water in a mug and put knife inside until water cooling down slowly... dry it with compressor air/gun.

Soak it in a bowl of WD-40.

Had the same previously on a user Spyderco. WD-40 cleaned it right up and got rid of the smell.

I've never used it, but have listened a lot positive reviews. I'm going to try it.

Chlorine Dioxide
http://www.biocidesystems.com/

It's the only thing that worked to de-skunk my dog and house. It will work on cigarette smoke.

THIS will do the trick, and you can use the remainder around the home/shop/garage.
I've used it for years - it just works.
$9 per gallon @ Home Depot - also comes in 32oz spray bottle

Some of these suggestions sound pretty interesting but I don't hold out too much hope.

Professionals who try to remove the smell of smoke after a fire use giant fans and chemicals.
As good as they are, the chemicals simply cover up the smell of smoke; nothing can fully remove it.

When I buy a knife on the forums, I ask about the f&f, whether the blade is well-centered, and whether it opens and closes smoothly.

This thread has got me wondering about the need to add one more question: smoker?

The knife is easy to de-stink. Alcohol wash, water and detergent plus scrub with soft brush, that will do very well. The box is harder. A day in a vacuum chamber at high vacuum ought to pull out the smell. Failing that, place in a sealed Ziplock bag with activated charcoal and place in a 200 degree oven. Repeat process with fresh charcoal. The heat releases the volatiles and the charcoal traps them. Use several heaping tablespoons both times, but in a cloth bag so the box isn't blackened.

Realize others might find that hint useful but, FWIW, this thread is over 2 years old and both the person who resurrected it and the person you're replying to have been banned.

Just for future reference to anybody that doesn't know.

Any way back on topic for me. Has anyone tried a baking soda scrub?

Activated carbon. Get it from a pet store. Put the activated carbon in a plastic and put the knife on top in the bag. This will fix it.

Nothing stinks worse than a smoker and everything they come in contact with. They stink worse than someone that has took a swim in raw sewage.

Try the alcohol bath then spray it down with febreeze. I would toss anything that was fabric or cardboard or plastic, I would say there was no hope for those items.
