Thanks for your perspective on PF Daniel. It's duly noted.
Nobody is perfect I guess. There definitely is a spectrum of fallibility though (eg: not getting the product or a refund). I'll keep using him assuming it all works out well. Hope it does :) .
After buying 8 Endura trainers for $95 shipped I prob just have more trust.

Hi, everyone. I'm rather new to the this forum, and to Spyderco collecting as well. As I live in Singapore, buying spyderco's from ebay will be inevitable. A company here brings them in, but sells it for 4 times the price. Knowing which shoddy sellers to avoid will definitely be a boon. Although, we have to bear in mind that when we order a knife, we're like kids who've been promised a toy as a christmas present. We want it NOW! So, the slightest delay or screw up will ruffle our feathers, resulting in communications to the company involved not being the most courteous... etc etc. Cock-ups will happen. As long as the companies aren't deliberately out to screw us, we need to cut them some slack.
P.S.- I've never bought from spydieguys, and no, i don't work for them... :D

Good point, I know many of our American friends have come to expect next day shipping or 2 day shipping on many items, so when it takes longer they get a little impatient and may email/phone the company. This strains relationships with the company because they have probably sent it off and in their minds it's a done deal. I'm happy if I get a knife within a month honestly, I have waited much longer then that as well, but I have always got what I ordered, be it from Spydieguys or any other retailer I've delt with.

I enjoy the analogy and it does work due to Christmas closing in.
However, unlike children we pay for our goods. The expectation is that as responsible stewards of our hard earned money, or credit card funds, a dealer will deliver goods and services in a positive way.
I've had to be in similar shoes drop shipping performance parts all over the country and even into Canada. I never left anyone in the dark due to my responsibility to run a decent company. Is a $1100 Nissan 350z limited slip differential the same as a pocket knife? It's the same transaction and while the items cost different amounts the respect and service should be the same.
I spent more time answering emails and pushing vendors than making videos or puffing out my chest. It freed up a bit of time.

I am very sorry to disappoint the conspiracy theorists of the knife world. But I have not moved my operation north to the city of Arlington, TX and hung the SpydieGuys shingle. In the years I was on eBay, I have seen more than one seller try and emulate exactly the way I did things.
In August I informed the manager of the Spyderco accounting department that my buying volume would be decreasing dramatically in the coming weeks due to radical changes I was making with my business, including leaving eBay after almost 5 years. I asked them to bear with me through the changes and that I hoped to eventually build my buying volume to previous levels.
In that same month of August I began working with a software development company to provide my web site the ability to conduct real-time auctions independent of eBay, but in the same manner eBay provides with it's proxy bidding method. There will be 99 cent starting bid auctions on my site, probably after Christmas, 2010.
In September, I placed a telephone call to my eBay Account Director and informed him that I would be leaving eBay permanently within 2 weeks, and explained to him the reasons why. The reasons why are clearly stated in my YouTube videos.
Chris (cosmo7809), what ever I personally did to you, I sincerely apologize. It must have been a really unscrupulous, near criminal act for you to make it your life's work to defame and scuttlebutt my business in the manner presented on this Forum. To think this thread is based on a one-sentence statement you read on BF, and pass off as your "research" is comical. It is also dangerous.
Dangerous are these methods. Take for instance the post in this thread of a customer of Spydieguys (Yablanowitz) who in fact had posted on this very Forum his satisfactory dealings with my company, that now has the impression that Spydieguys was banned from eBay because "someone posted" that FACT the other day. Sad. Fact and Scuttlebutt are not one and the same. Truth apparently is not important to some people. Seems to me that VINDICTIVENESS more clearly identifies the "bad guy."
Sad too, that some on this Forum relegate "Shiny Footprints" only to apply on this forum to descriptions of Spyderco competitors. That's a double standard and FWIW, naive. I may be wrong, but my belief is that shiny footprints were to be applied to all aspects of this Forum. Sal said....quote ..."We have always tried to "leave shiny footprints" where ever we go." Wherever we go would seem to account for "wherever....."
I do not come here very often anymore, while I do remain a member of this Forum. Many thanks to my customers who called this thread to my attention yesterday.
One more thing....... to 5.56.........
I wish you knew one of my customers. He's a retired man and lives in the small town of Saint Louis, Michigan. In the past 5 years, he has spent a great deal of money with Spydieguys. He gets very excited with auctions and hates to lose. He also has nearly every Spyderco model produced the last few years, Spyderco knives are his passion. It is his favorite hobby, and one his wife does not like very much. He talks on the phone with my shipping employee Kate quite often. She is crazy about him. He is a lovely old man. His eBay user ID is "ddtcity."

I have bought a lot of Spydercos from Spydieguys in the last 4 or 5 years and have not once had an issue. A lot of E-Bay sellers like to make about $20 per transaction to ship into Canada when the actual cost is about $2. At least Jess's shipping wasn't more than the knife.

In no more than 15 minutes did I found out what you were about. That sure is a lifetime......
Its obvious I am not alone in my thinking. I have read more than one statement about Spydies. This thread was not based from BF.
I think I owe it to my community to make them aware of somethings that go on that not everyone might see. I never told the members to "stop buying" or "never go here again" They could make that decision for themselves as that is what they are doing in the the responses to this thread.

I bought quite a few knives from Spydieguys on eBay last year. Several thousand $$$ worth, and up until the last two, which were not in stock, I was extremely pleased and highly recommended them. The first of those out of stock ones arrived after four weeks. I didn't complain. The second one caused me to request a refund and mention that I would be leaving negative feedback. Jess sent me an email threatening to ban me from bidding on future knives he placed up for auction if I did, and then he followed through and banned me. I had also bought knives off of his website. I've tried to log onto his website since the first of the year and it's been off line. He hasn't put up any new videos either. I hope he recovers from whatever is going on and in the process develops a workable inventory system.

Seriously, why do people want to go back to him after
THAT!?
It's pretty obvious he's not a guy to do business with if he doesn't even want you as a customer.

I have heard enough run around and scam and flat out theft stories about ebay and how ebay doesn't really care what goes on. I don't do any business with ebay. It is dubbed the garage sale of the internet.
I have been scammed a few times outside of ebay, and it is enough for me to not want to get started with ebay.
As far as I'm concerned, if you deal with ebay, you are taking the risk of dealing with shifty individuals.

This is true. I was scammed out of $2200 on EBay. I opened a dispute with EBay and Paypal. Neither companies made good on it except for an insulting $88 from PayPal. I provided loads of documentation on the seller and the line of communication as had and they still didn't care.

My bad experience with Spydieguys

Here is my story of the tangle and bad experience I had.
On the 13th of Nov 2007 I bought a set of knives from the Spydieguys website.
http://www.lern2play.se/chiefen/SpydieGuys.pdf
Paypal lists the cost to:
This email confirms that you have paid SpydieGuys$96.95 USD using PayPal.
This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "PAYPAL
*SPYDIEGUYS".
Quantity: 1
Total: $84.95 USD
Cart Subtotal: $84.95 USD
Shipping: $12.00 USD
Cart Total: $96.95 USD
-------------------------------
So after a few weeks (this was bought to get it before Xmas 2007) I emailed and asked for the tracking number and eventually when I don't get any package with in 2-3 weeks I started calling the mail service in my country trying to see if they can find anything. But there's no trace of it. I them had a few short e-mails with Jess discussing the actually cause of this and the possibilities of a delay to my country. The weeks go by and turn into months, and well into the new year I'm pretty frustrated with the whole thing. I was just scammed on the internet prior to this so another one was just what I needed, right? Then a few weeks after some non-responsive e-mails, on the 18th of Feb (4 months after the purchase) I get this.
Good day, Mathias!* Today I received your package of kitchen knives that
were sent on 11/13/07; back in the mail.* they were returned and marked"Non
reclame". The package had not been opened , but we will repackage the knives
to resend them to you.* We are confused as to why they were sent back.* I
feel so bad because I'm sure that these were for a Christmas gift!!!!! If
you have any idea as to why thet were sent back, please let us know.* When
you reply please send us your exact mailing address, maybe ebay has it
wrong.* So sorry, I wonder where the knives have been for "3 Months"?????*
Look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day.* Pam @ Spydieguys
---------------
Ok, that's fair, I'm a forgiving guy, the package with the knives was returned, for some reason. Now, here's my question, why wasn't this sent to me again,
or why wasn't I refunded the money for the knives, at least ($84.95). I have been unemployed for years and these money was kind of a lot for me, at the time. It was a Christmas present for my old dad. That wasn't so nice, either. I'm still kinda bummed out by the whole thing.

Here in Europe we have something called consumer rights organization/agency for the EU, if it had been within EU I would have reported them and have the police handle it. They are pretty good at these things.

This thread is sort of going nowhere now. When the heavy hitters of the forum don't bother posting anymore, the thread is dead.
Its the internet.
So everyone has an opinion.
Lots of people dislike Spydieguys. Some do not. But based on the amount that do not and the posting of negative experiences world wide, I personally would never deal with them.
It just doesn't seem that whenever something negative occurs, Spydieguys does the right thing in the end.
So buyer beware.

I only had one deal with Spydieguys through eBay two years ago... (Endura Combo Edge, Sharpmaker and one Husky Torx driver)... and it worked out fine no problems and it was an international transaction!
That been said...I still believe that if you can make hundredths of deals as a seller wright because you are simply supposed to... but those which turn out to be your mistakes and bad deals are the ones that define your practices and show your character and principals. Those bad deals show how you handle things and how much you respect your own busyness and your customers! That goes for all sellers!
So in a way it speaks for itself why people do not like to deal with certain dealers!
