Totally understand Sal, and I'm sure at least a few of the 8,000.000 odd folk who live in those 470 sq miles will appreciate your efforts. :) No question there's an increasing market for slipjoints worldwide, although I think you'd agree that at least some of the reasons for that increase are rather depressing.

Am sure Bill Wirtel is happy to have a nice new platform to decorate as well. He already did a few "full panel" Kiwis, so it should be an easy transition for him. In fact, I'd bet not having the lock well to contend with will make the Kiwi 3 a whole lot easier for him to work with than the original version.

As for me, I very pleased to hear that the other 11,000,000 of us New Yorkers who do not live under Mr. Vance's boot heel have been taken off the blacklist and can once again purchase locking folders from SFO.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I just didn't know if they were in the SFO yet because they haven't been announced on the "New PRoducts" forum here, nor have they been posted on spyderco.com...

No question about it being depressing. So many good ideas put on the other side of a silly fence for little good reson.

But, I can cry in my beer or make Slipits and Slip joints.

We still make autos, p'kals, and ladybugs.....for the clear of mind.

On topic: never owned a Kiwi and looking at your collection Deacon, I'm glad I was not bitten by that particular Bug. Probably have to take a second mortgage to afford them all!
That being said, the thought of an affordable, slipit style kiwi is a cool one. Gonna try it. They'd probably be great gifts as well.

Hopefully KC will be sending me mine soon. Can't wait. The SS locking Kiwi is my fav cause it's thinner.

I am really excited to purchase one as I never owned a Kiwi and living in the o so wonderful NYC(:rolleyes :) I can carry it going to class.

the only thing i didnt like about my kiwis was since it was so incredibly tight it has those marks on it. the half circles. my camera cant show the definition but you all know what i mean. i guess in time it will loosen up but the lines will never go away. just you really got to pull hard and it "snaps" back down so quick if you dont have a good grip you'll pinch your fingers.
i have to say that tip is phenomenal, sharp and pointy. i would hate to get cut with that. i nicked myslef on sunday wiping one with a cloth.

Just got one today. Here's a quick little review. I know it's a little crappy (took me about 10 tries to be able to talk coherently like a normal person). I will probably end up re-making it, there's not enough light...

I've seen them on New Grham Knives I personally haven't bought from them but i have herd a lot of good things about them. there is also YCS though again, i have only herd good things, not actually ordered from them. When it comes to SFO i am lucky enough to live 20 miles away...

Got one yesterday. Very nicely made. especially for the price. Given the size and shape of the Kiwi handle, the lack of a lock is not really much of an issue. On the other hand, I do think a half stop would have been a good idea. Given the rather enthusiastic backspring I think it would add a measure of safety when closing. Larger lanyard hole is nice.

As I mentioned in another thread, while it's slightly larger than the Kiwi and Kiwi 2, it's very close to them in size. Blade is 1/16" longer and the handle is 1/8" longer. Still fits very nicely in the leather pouch that came with the regular Kiwis. Definitely not anywhere near Delica size.

ClusterFlux, those scuff marks may not all be from it being a display model. Am pretty sure mine was never out of the box till I got it, and it arrived with several. I'd chalk it up to the material and the degree of care between assembly and packaging possible at its price point. Agree that opening it safely is most definitely a two hand job. Small Spyderhole, robust backspring, stainless steel handle, and sharp blade make one hand opening both difficult and risky.
