i seriously laughed out loud when i read that, which i know what the feeling of a pointless gun is. btw mine arent pointless, thats just alot of bullets to keep in stock is all im saying.
i try to keep my bullets universal, but when i think about it, i shoot 9mm, .308, .233, 12 gauge & 7.62, so after that being said still none of my bullets are universal

Ruger Red Label Stainless Steel O/U 12 ga.
Lanber 2097 O/U 12 ga.
Rossi Model 88 snub nose .38 Spl.
Browning Buckmark .22 auto.
And a couple of old single shot shotguns passed down from my wife's side of the family.

What do you think of the Red Label? I've been meaning to shoot one. The sport shooters forums are pretty snobby and don't give the Ruger o/u much credit. I've held one and seemed pretty darn good to me.

I like my Red Label a lot. It's got a really good feel to it.
I know what you mean about some of the forums. I found the same thing when I was researching the gun. If you are thinking about getting one then don't let what others say keep you from it. Especially if you've held one and liked it. I never understood all the bashing myself. I think it is one sweet gun.
When I go trap shooting, some of the die-hard trap shooters are amazed by my Red Label. They've never seen a stainless steel over and under before. All exposed metal parts are stainless steel. Barrels and all. They are usually shocked when I tell them it's a Ruger Red Label.
The fact that it makes people take a second look makes me like it that much more. :D

Thanks for the heads up. I'm attracted to the gun, and really don't feel like plopping down a thousand or so more to get something dressed in prettier clothes or with a fancier label.

I still didnt kick myself to do the paperwar to get the permit. I dont want the ownership one and the carry one is more difficult to get, as you need to give a very good reason for that. I just dont understand why 'protection of life and property' is not considered being a good enough reason in this country.

I've got a number of guns--more than I'd care to mention in a public forum. However, some of them are "special." One of my prized pieces is this one--the personal carry gun of the late Col. Rex Applegate when he was living in Mexico after WWII. After using it to shoot a campesino armed with a machete--and being disappointed with the results of the .38 S&W cartridge, it became the inspiration for the Centennial model.

Mike, is that a Schoeffield revolver? You mentioned specials, do you have an ASP gun? If yes, what do you think of it, the concept itself. :)

It is actually a patented, handmade leather design that Col. Applegate liked for concealed carry in hot climates. I have to refresh my memory, but I believe the design dates back to the 1930's. The Colonel's version was made for him after WWII by a holster maker from (I believe) Denver. Again, I'll need to check the details.

No, it's a break-top .38 S&W "Lemon Squeezer," so called because if its grip safety.
I do not have an ASP, but I'm familiar with it--a Devel-customized S&W Model 39 with see-through grips, bobbed hammer, etc. I've heard good things about them, but couldn't afford one when they were available. Now with the ready availability of small-frame 9's like the Kahr, it's a lot easier to meet that need. The ASP was way ahead of its time, though.
