Just a couple yrs ago, a Ronin was my 1st. It was not easy to find.
Then Yojimbo's, Dodo's, and its been "on" ever since.
(have collected knifes for over 30 yrs)
Got tired of the brand I collected for the past 15 yrs. Quality fell off and it got boring trying to collect the same knifes that were produced 10 yrs earlier., Went to another maker for a while picking up all the earlier models that interested me, then finally to Spyderco.
"Finally" made the discovery to all of the Spyderco variations.
For some reason I associated Spyderco with SS, FRN and serrations.
It has been fun making up the lost decade of Spyderco's.
Have about all the older models that interest me, so its now a waiting game for new models. Sprints interest me the most. Mules etc.
And am blown away with what Spyderco has produced over the past couple years. IMO These are the "good old days" :D
(Whats killing me is I still collect all (3) when certain models pop up.)

My first was the Spyderfly. An unsual first but i was younger then and i liked balisongs alot. I loved the symmetrical lines of the spyderfly and i had to have it. I still have it and it's still one of my best Balisongs. After this first purchase i didn't really keep up with spyderco. I wish i had then i'd really have some nice knives in bulk too i'd imagine. But theres a time and place for everything. My first working spyderco was a Delica 4 SS PE. Bought it last year and have purchased 40+ spydies since that faithful delica entered my life. Theres no turning back now though the new models keep getting better and the older models grow on me. I've had my share of knife buying but it's different with spyderco. I started with Buck and Gerber and those were good knives for a few years. Then they're manufacture moved to china or taiwan. So I switched to Kershaw and that was nice for about 3 years or so. Now i'm where i belong Spyderco.

Thanks for sharing, everyone, lots of interesting stories! Amazing to think how long some of us have been traveling this road, and all the attractions that caught our eyes along the way.
I, too, sometimes wish I had come earlier to the caravan, because of all the great knives I missed and might never see. But there's also a lot of great looking knives just around bend, so, better late than never I guess. :)

My first Spyderco was a stainless SE CoPilot and Police back in the early '90s. I had them in a drawer but they were bought as my friend said I should have a small and large knife. Never thought much of them at the time as it was just a "knife" to me. Then in early 2005 I spotted a Spyderco Native CE that had the Spyderco logo and webbing etched on the handle. I had to have it! It was the first Spyderco that I really liked and it drew me into acquiring more of them. From that point on, I was hooked and have built up quite a collection.

My first was a first gen Dragonfly, SE, in late '94 or early '95. Someone just gave it to me.I beat on that knife for years and it still held out. Lent it out, and it was carelessly lost.

That thing is a pretty knife. I have never seen a picture of one.
I don't think anyone is a collector of Natives. :o

Got my first spydie in '89 , a SE SS Endura. I think I was thirteen and bought it at a local gun show. I can remember running from table to table looking at all the knives they had, comparing prices and different brands. I finally decided and made my first big knife purchase. I think I paid $70 or so for it. At thirteen $70 was tough to come by. I think I got $15 to cut a yard front and back, back then. It took a lot to spend that kind of money on a knife. I still have that knife today. I have been hooked ever since. I mainly purchased all the custom colaborations I could get my hands on then. The 90's were some great years for spydie designs and custom colaborations!
Been to a gun show lately? There used to be 6-7 players in the knife biz at the gun shows. I went to a few in the fall, and there were just 2 that still dealt with a nice assortment of name brand knives. Spydie, BM, sog, kershaw,

My first was a Terzuola, but I didnt know any better and swapped it for a Benchmade AFCK (sorry, but they both had holes and I was uneducated

). So, my first real one was the Cricket. Both bought in the early 90's. Then nothing til 2008 when looking to upgrade my Cricket...now the cause is lost...

I am new to the game. I started about a month ago with a UKPK and most recently got a Foliage Manix 2. I kinda want to add a Native and a P'kal in the near future. I also wouldn't mind owning a rescue UKPK either.

my first was a Delica1 fat clip 17 years ago, i think it was G-2, do not have it anymore, many Sypercos in my younger years were lost or traded for other things.
I think the reason i still carry a Delica today is because i started with one so long ago, who knows what i would be carrying if i just bought my first 2 years ago?

My first Spyderco was a ladybug 2 in red, CE. Gave it to Bananaboy_S4 for his birthday a while back.
Then I got a Copilot as a gift. First one I bought for myself was an etched Spin. Got my brother an etched Cricket to match as an Xmas gift.

My first Spyder was an Endura 3 with a full Spyder Edge... I still have it and it's still going strong as the day I bought it, about 10 years ago or so. No blade play either way and still takes a wicked edge. Cool part is, I only paid $33 dollars for it on clearance... I wish I would have bought all three they had now.

My first real folder (been carrying a SAK since age 8 or so) was a Flat-Iron Hunter, bought directly from the Ironstone catalog back in 95-96ish. Man, did I love (and use) that knife. Busted the old style style clip, sent back to the factory so they could shave off the remaining portion and add a metal one. I think I lost it about 5 or so years later on a diving trip.
Next was a G10 Rookie from the same era. I loved the original G10 mix, had a sort of rubbery texture to it, almost like Kraton coated G10. Sold it to a buddy who's still carrying it. I shouldn't have, but at least he's a convert.
Been solely carrying Spydies since, just recently hit the "more than half my life" point. I got bit early on.
