None for me. Orange isn't my thing. However, if Eric does a crazy NASA version like he did with the Manix2, I would do cartwheels and jumping jacks. 

Well if you keep that view/knife ratio the original thread got around 15k views.

That would be 1026 knives. :p

For everyone who doesn't really want a Dodo. Look on Ebay at what they sell for and tell me one wouldn't be a good investment.

In the case if Sprint Dodo happens, there is no definite answer on this. All depends on how many would be made, what is street price would be and how soon you are planning to cash it.
By the way I believe that sprints, if they are fairly close to original are bringing price of originals down, al least temporary.

The thing is, the original variations will always bring more money. Someone who is looking for collectable value is going to know that the first runs of Dodo's are blue and black. So those versions will be worth more than an Orange version because it is a newer and more readily available knife.

Now five to ten years down the road, you may be looking at an increase in value of a, say, 600 run of orange dodo's... But I would venture to say that the blue and black versions will still be worth more. So the value of them won't be taken down.

At least, that's how I see it.

Dodos have been down for a long time. Average aggregate price this year is only around $120-$130. Given that the street price was @$90, the Dodo was discontinued a little more than three years ago and the risks associated with selling in an auction based environment and a Dodo is generally a pretty poor investment, at the very least it will not keep up with inflation in the long term. It's similar to firearms, you will generally sell it for more money than you paid for it but you'll take a hit on the return on investment due to the amount of time the "asset" had to be held. Net loss overall.

Everyone is pretty charged up about the Forum Native but I think that is going to prove to be an anomaly in the long-term. Which doesn't really mean anything since most collectible Spyderco prices are actually set by anomalous auctions that are subsequently adjusted due to the increased number of sales prompted by the earlier higher prices.

Couple this with the increased speculator activity and you could very easily see a few Dodos sell for high prices around the sprint time but I think overall the price would drop with a sprint run and would stay depressed for some time before leveling off at a more typical collector price.

Other models have consistently surpassed it in price. If sprint runs were based on aggregate eBay selling price the models to bring back (at this time) would be the Yojimbo, Gunting and Ayoob.

This is about an average month so far for the Dodo.

As I said in the other thread on this subject; I don't really like the idea of a Dodo sprint run. I would much prefer a sprint run based on a revision of the concept. I think the Dodo really killed the full-handle LBK concept, it never could outrun the cries of "glorified box-cutter!" :(

There was always a low for each model...that is why they got discontinued. Nobody wants some Spyderco models until they are long gone. I remember when Motang (spelling) got thier hands on a crap load of Ayoob's and sold them for $65.00 right after they were discontinued. Now you can't touch them for that price.

I wouldn't buy any knife as an investment or retirement fund. I wouldn't list my knife collection as having a ROI either. I sell some at a loss and some at a gain. I just do it because I love collecting knives and I know if I had to feed my family, they'll never go down to 0.00 dollars, so I could get something out of it..unlike smoking, drinking or whatevering my money away.

Don't list you want one if its only for investment, but I'm still in for a primary EDC and backup model if these get made.

Excellent point. I wasn't stating that it was a bad idea to buy/sell/collect knives, just that investment is a bad reason to get into the Dodo. Don't buy it because it may be worth X dollars in the future, get it because it's a very unique design in an extremely diversified industry that works better than most gave it credit for. The fact that it will still have a significant amount of worth in the future is just a bonus. :D

I will concede that proper timing can make some knives a very solid investment. We've all heard the tales of the $45 Shabarias, $70 Yojimbos and $55 Dodos that retailers absolutely could not get rid of. Buying at those prices will probably allow someone who knows the market very well to make quite a handsome profit. Which is part of the draw for a lot of collectors, getting a knife at an extreme discount and then watching the value explode is a very addictive, if hard to satisfy, feeling.

Whoa! I'm not pushing speculative financial moves. I'm just saying it has a chance to appreciate and many of the ones I have seen are in the mid $100 range.

Being all of those on Ebay now are blue and serrated I would say that a Black PE would be in the upper range. A PE Orange (or another color) would be up there too. With S90v (if dreams come true), you sure can bet 5 years from now they wont be sold for $80 on the bay.

Really my only point was if the did do a run (or 2) it would be a nice collector piece down the road. It would still be more stable than the entire stock market.

If you want a great way to make money, get a job and work hard. I have 2 at the moment and am still broke. :p

Note: Looking back at my post I did ask for some collector perspective. Thanks for the input.

Basically I was just working a different angle for the non-users. Even if I hated the Dodo and it came out, I would buy one because of what it represents. You just gotta take your hat off for certain models through history.
