I'm very pleased with the production model; the construction is tight and the quality is high. The liners are 1.5 times as heavy or thick as many of the liner locks made by Moki and I believe it will be a strong knife with a secure lock...Take Care...Ed
Thanks Ed, Love the looks and will soon find out the feel of this well constrcted Barong. :spyder:
Ed Schempp & Spyderco = Great :spyder: :D

Just got my Barong, I am very impressed. It feels very nice in hand, and the angle of the blade seems very "user friendly". I don't relly mind the portion of the blade that isn't sharpened, but another 1/4 inch of sharpened edge would be nice, and I think still give some room for you to choke up on. Here is a pic with a FG Manix, sorry 'bout the crappy photo, the flash is not my friend. :D

 You wish it was bigger!?! The overall length of 9" isn't enough? :D

I've been playing with my Barong for about a week now and have made one modification. I removed the clip and sanded the clipside of the handle with 400 grit paper. It now goes in and out of the pocket quite nicely.
I'm finding that the deep saddle like grip lends itself to facilitate transition from forward to reverse grip and back. The curves at the front and rear of the grip help me index the piece.
The knife as a folder is as large as most jurisdictions allow and is beyond legal carry limits in a growing number of municipalities. It would not be of legal carry length in Seattle or Boston for example...Take Care...Ed

Always good to hear from you Ed. Thanks for the insights.
The blade length is fine for legal carry here, and the grip looks very comfortable. I'm looking forward to getting my Barong soon. Now, when is the Khukri coming out?
I was also a little disappointed that the grind doesn't go further back on the production version. I think I understand why it doesn't, though. One of the main uses of the original barong was chopping (like a machete). I believe Ed wanted his interpretation into a folder to retain some of this chopping ability. Taking the grind much further back would throw off the weight and balance for chopping.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
Yesterday I was lucky to handle one (Thank you Henry1960). The knife looks great, handle is terrific, very comfortable, action smooth like a butter, lock is rock solid. I love finger choils, but this 1" of unsharpened edge put me away. I was thinking about buying, now I will wait for a while, may be Ed and Spyderco will change design and grind blade a futher

I must admit, I rarely get exited nowadays with anything new.
EXCEPT this time though, man, the ergo's on that large-ish blade makes my mouth water! What a sweet knife that looks to be "alive" in the hand!
Although as the others have said, I too find it strange to have that size of blade with such a small cutting edge (although from what I understand of Mr. Shemp's reasoning, it was made such to be able to make it "legal carry" size to off-set the perceived large blade size).
