One really neat thing about the large Wegner is the way you can "thumb flick" the blade open using the Spyderhole with very little effort. It's really something when you first try that a few times. The sound it makes when it locks up is fabulous. It's a very strongly built knife, but still reasonably lightweight. It's fairy slim, but has enough girth to feel good in the hand. It's shape is perfect, at least for me. When you wear it in the right front pocket, it curves away to the outside of the pocket making it very convenient and comfortable to reach into the pocket. It's got ATS-34 steel. It get's ridiculously sharp, with very little effort.

It's a good knife. The Wegner Jr. is identical in every way, but smaller.

As far as I know, they are all VG-10. Jeff is talking about the other Wegner knife, not the Mouse.

The Mouse runs for 90-100 bux, depending on where you purchase it. I remember someone once spotted one at around 70, but I can't recall where. Check out Blade-Tech, A.G. Russell, Blade Art, Knifecenter. It's pricy, but worth every penny. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I've decided to wait awhile, then order the Mouse AND a G-10 Harpy; (which I have long desired) both from Blade Art.

I was just thinking...wouldn't these two make a dynamite, compact, "do-anything" utility pair for EDC?

Hi guys,

Haven't been in the forum for ages...extremely busy these days.

Since the mouse topic is up again, I have something really interesting to add.

I got my mouse some months ago, and since then it was my EDC. I usually just stuff it inside my trouses pocket because I don't wear a jean to work.

One day, to my horror, I found brown stain mark on the left side (non-clip side) of the handle. I tried rubbing it, polishing it and everything but was in vain to remove it.

Anyone got any idea why?

I have a possible theory: That day, after drinking my coffee and wiped my mouth with a paper towel, i stuffed it in my pocket where i also put the mouse in. the acid in the coffee was probably what changed the colour of the aluminum surface.

The strange thing is that months later now, the stain gradually subside and is sort of back to normal.

That never happened to any of my knives with SS scales.

One more thing, the mouse is one of the most wonderful little knife i ever came across.

This is one REALLY nice knife. It's small but it really feels more capable that it's size indicates. The lock looks and feels much stronger than some of my other Spydies. There's a very authoritative "Click" when you open it. In fact, the whole knife seems to be built with a much bigger blade in mind. I love the cross-texturing along the back of the "hump". It gives you a positive feel for control during intricate cutting.

The VG-10 blade is sweet!

The aluminum scales are quite appealing. I disagree with the statement that they are
"cheap". (Sorry, bell)

Yes, titanium would be nice but, now you'll be adding significant cost to the price. CF or Micarta would definitely be welcome in my house, so would a SpyderEdge. But, I understand that Tim W. is not a big fan of serrated blades.

Overall, I wholeheartedly agree with Mouse fans everywhere. This is one awesome knife! Job well done, Sal & Tim!

Thanks for your detailed review of the Mouse. As you know, I have been wondering when to "pounce"...on the Mouse that is. Groan.

Spyderco has many collaborations and they appear in the catalog. Why is the mouse different? Aluminum is less expensive for the manufacturer IMO than any other scale material, is soft, the surface oxidizes and is "dull" compared to other materials (except on the Lum it seems really handsome) and most important is cold on Kahz when in formal attire. Does Wegner has a web site? I surely want one, aluminum or not.

Well I've wanted one for awhile, and this thread didn't help any. I should have mine in a week or two. Also I'm getting the kydex neck sheath. Anyone else have the Sastre sheath with their Mouse?? How do you like the combo??
