Texas Guy - welcome aboard. As Simon points out, legally carrying a gun over here isn't an option. We still have more than our fair share of armed crime though - go figure.................. :mad:

As for myself I shoot a bit. Off to Bisley ranges this week for a competition - I'll be giving the Lee Enfield 303" and the Marlin 357" a bit of an outing.

And no - there is no cure for the addiction.............................. :p

The Police used to use them back in 60's at the academy to train new recruits in sight alignment and trigger control before handing them their issued sidearm this pellet pistol cost more than most firearms back then and worked off co2. They're not rubber. They're harder than that. They're 6mm generally which is about .22 caliber. They also make paintballs in this size for airsoft guns if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, the article does mention plastic BB's. I only glanced over it. I really wans't sure.

I'll be honest, I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a pistol, so, I don't think it would help me much to carry one (I say there is no such thing as a bad gun, just a bad shot). And people tend to get nervous when you carry a 30-30 lever action(the only firearm I have ever been able to shoot well), so I am afraid I am forced to go without projectile support in my daily activities. My dad carries a smith k-frame though, and he swears by it, so I suppose I'll vouch for that one as an EDC. I keep trying to get him to carry a spydie to compliment the s&w, but he won't give up his buck for love or money. As hard is it is to believe, I bought him an Endura last year that just sits in the dresser!!!

Jordan: Smith and Ruger make the best wheelguns on the market today....so your dad is wise in his K-frame choice....as hard as it is to believe that he would choose a Buck over the Endura is very well may have something to do with size...I would suggest getting him a smaller :spyder: say like the cricket as a money clip...once he notices the workmanship and uses a small spyderco he may very well consider taking a second look at the Endura...My dad wouldn't use his spyderco knives either he said they were too nice...then again he used to destroy knives as he used them in place of tools...so I learned to buy him crap to mess up, and I got all the spydercos... :D Doc :D

Hello All, I live in Arizona........which alot like Texas is a pretty easy state to carry in. I have my ccw permit and along with my Ti-Atr, or my renegade, I carry a Kimber Stainless Ultra carry. I shoot at least 1 time........sometimes 2 times a week. I used to carry a cz rami in 9mm.......and still sometimes carry a Naa guardian in .32, but the size of the Kimber (3 in. barrel, aluminum frame), coupled with 7 rds. of .45 acp made my choice easy. (.45 makes BIG holes!!). I am surprised at the amount of people who have responded that DO NOT carry a pistol. I had thought they went hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly. Simon G, I am glad to see someone from the UK with a gun at all.....I had heard it was illegal for anyone but the police to own a gun at all (longarms or pistols). BTW, good thread Texas Guy..............

The law here is that anyone can open-carry. :eek: CCI isn't too hard to get.

My wife is finally getting interested in guns, now that the kids are grown. We went to a gun show a month ago and she handled a .38 Special: "Ooooo, this one is cute! Wow, it fits my hand!" :rolleyes:

It's a common mis-conception! Ironic, considering that the UK "gave" the world the concept of the right to keep and bear arms, first with the magna carta in 1215 and later written in the British Constitution with the 1689 Declaration and Bill Of Rights! Both documents still exist in English Common law, believe it or not, but the judiciary and the politicians have chosen to ignore them and they have been watered down to such an extent, that it's probably the case that 98% of Brits don't even know they have a Constitution! :mad:

However, Oh yes we still have guns! Albeit in a much restricted and controlled licensing system. In short, full bore rifles in single shot, bolt or lever, no slide or semi. And small bore, all actions as long as they have a 12 inch minimum barrel and an overall length of 24 inches, (including semi and slide)

Shotguns, all. Slide, semi, SxS, O/U or single barrel. But they must have a barrel length of 24 inches and an overall length of 40 inches.

Pistols. Muzzle loading pistols and revolvers only. Except, a bone fide collector can have "historical" pistols and revolvers if manufactured before 1919. Severly restricted though. But believe it or not, "antique" pistols, either blackpowder or from a list of obsolete calibres............no licence required! An original Colt 1860 Army, no licence. A modern replica of an 1860 Army, licence required! :confused:

But see if you can work this out. Legally owned and used by me.................

Simon G, Veeery Nice indeed!! I am glad to hear it is not as gun restrictive as I had been led to believe. Just out of curiosity.......do you shoot at a range, or just go somewhere out in the countryside? Do you hunt? I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I find this fascinating. It just goes to show you can't always believe what you hear.

I seem to shoot where ever I can! :D

There are a couple of big military ranges my gun club has access to, giving everything from 25 to 1200yds! :cool: I also shoot at the world famous Bisley range, which is about an hour and a half away. phil44uk who posts here, is off there this weekend. But I've seen the weather forcast! Man is he going to get wet!

About a mile away is a lovely, newly built indoor range with 8 x 25m lanes for .22, pistol calibre rifles and blackpowder pistols.

I'm fotunate to have a friend who is a farmer, so have access to his land for shooting and another shooting buddy has access to other land. Here, we shoot a little game and some vermin such as fox and rabbit. My buddies land also has boar that cross it frequently! We also bought a clay trap and now and again spend the day shooting clays.

There are a couple of great clay layouts not far away, but as this is the only politically correct form of shooting, these comercial clay ranges have taken advantage of the corporate market and are becoming very expensive to use. :mad:

As I said, I'm fortunate to have access to some land as you cannot shoot on public land and need either to own yourself or have the landowners permission.

Still, it doesn't dampen the spirits, I get to shoot quite a bit, work and family permitting. But I also reload all of my own ammo, except .22rf and shotgun. I even cast for my "cowboy guns" and blackpowder! Something about shooting bullets you've made yourself and reloaded! :cool:

My best friend, who is serving with the police in the Cayman Islands, have just been issued with the XD. So far, they really like them.

wish i was in america so i could carry but once i get dual citizenship i would be carrying a kahr p9 9mm and a two tone glock 17
