Mine is Grasshopper from Big Rock when I'm playing in the pool league. Otherwise, it the old standby Kokanee. On those hot summer days on the BBQ, Marca Bavaria is a nice change.

I guess not many of you know our former Czechoslovakian Beers, do you?
So lets go:

Pilsner Urqeull - the best one!
Budvar (aka Budweiser, but its not that u.s. one, only the "same" name..)
Zlaty Bazant (Slovakian beer) - aka Golden Fassell

I think only Simona knows whats goin on :p
Well Jano, I know they sell Pilsner Urquell here, have seen it in the stores, perhaps I'll make that my next new one to sample. The Budvar, because of the trademark dispute over the Budweiser name, will probably never be sold in the US. Hope it tastes a lot better than its American counterpart. Have not seen the Zlaty, not sure if it's exported to the US or not.

The problem with Pilsner Urquell is, despite the fact that it's widely recognized as the best Pilsner in the world, it's very difficult to find a bottle of the stuff that isn'toff. The fact that P.U. insists on bottling the stuff in green bottles, instead of brown bottles as the good Lord intended, just makes it worse. I'd say 75% -- and probably the number is really higher than that -- of Pilsner Urquell I try ends up having off tastes of some sort, and a whole lot is outright skunked.

Yes, Czecho-slowakians used to make fine beer. I'm not very much into beer, but I enjoy a Carlsberg now and then. And I also like a local dark beer named "Dracula". ;) I think most of you would consider it inferior, but we (me and my wife) like it. Works great with pizza :)

Hello Paul,
thats great with the Pilsner, I saw one box of that beer on the fridge in that "FRIENDS" TV Series. It is a very old beer made in Pilsen (I was born about 20kilometers next to that town :) ) I suggest to give it a try.
I think there is also a possibility for you to taste Budvar and Zlaty Bazant.

I would suggest to look for the places in NYC where people from former Czechoslovakia use to join and have fun. I am not sure but it should be called "Czechoslovakian League" (it is the name of their community) you can have a look. They mostly speak their native languages on such a meetings, the czechoslovakian goods are sold there (cheese, sweets and also BEER!) But most of that staff are people who live in US for several years or decades. They just keep their "home" not to forget. When I should go once into US I would definetely like to visit that place.
My brother was last year in London on a simillar meeting. It works also there.

Hello everybody,

just one little suggestion, if anybody from here would like to visit during this summer, or anytime Slovakia and especially the capital, Bratislava. You can give me a message via e-mail and I can guide you through the town, show you some famous places and pubs here. In case of visiting other towns, you can give me an email, and I can advise you some interesting places near your location.

This service is free for Spyderbrothers :)

Regards,
J.

I generally do not drink beer. I am of the opinion that if it isn't wine, it has been through someone already. :D

Hoegaarden

Post by loptAT-8 »

If you never tasted Hoegaarden then don't debate on such a delicate topic. But remember, because of the brewing proces (white beer proces) it is possible that the beer has gone bad. Try more than one bottle :)
Tip: try a Hoegaarden with a slice of grapefruit

Stella Artois is also a good PILSENER :D :D :D

I am a big beer drinker. I like Amstel the best. But mostly I drink cheap beer out of half litre cans. I drink about 5 of them in the evening( I never drink during the day and when I have my son over I drink only 1 or 2) I am trying to cut down lately..

Guinness on tap is my first choice. But also Red Hook IPA is good, and I'll drink Shiner Bock when I'm out. To be honest, I like most beers, so I'm not too picky.

Mr Blonde wrote:Regular beer, always on hand is Amstel.

But the best truly is La Chouffe! But as Ted said, only from the tap.

With the Summer breaking through, a nice white beer like Hoegaarden is hard to beat though.

Wouter

I must agree on Mr. Blonde except on the Amstel part. You know La Chouffe is a beer from the Ardennes. Anybody saw "the battle of the buldge"? (historical WWII movie) That's the region i mean
"KNUTS" must have been said while drinking a few of these... :D
