My favorite non-Spyderco carry knives are the SOG Pentagon Elite and X-ray Vision, The Benchmade Griptilian, the Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Covert Folder, the Mike Franklin "Hawg", The Smith & Wesson SS SWAT framelock,and just about anything from CRKT. They're all outstanding!

Benchmade Mini Stryker, plainedge. I have found the thumbdisk on this model to be as satisfying to use as the spyderhole.

Klotzli KLM-2 (red/black carbon fiber). The only reason this isn't my everyday carry is that the thin wharncliff blade and 440C just don't work for medium to heavy tasks. But I think it is THE "gentlemens" folder and I prefer it to the Calypso Jr. Micarta when wearing thin slacks. With the clip off it weighs about 34 grams.

My favorite non-Spyder folder has got to be the Emerson CQC7b. It fits my hand just right, and I consider the design to be nothing less than a work of art. Unfortunately it's the old version built under contract with Benchmade. I intend to buy myself the new version (black titanium blade) made by Emerson's own company as soon as I have the cash. I have always respected the fact that Emerson has the real-world experience of harsh environments to back up his designs.

my fav's got to be the emmerson commander with the wave feature. That's my primary defensive blade. I have yet to see a knife that's faster into action and would make me want to replace it. also in my pocket are a CRKT KISS as a money and a Victorinox Delux Tinker. When I'm at work I alternate my back up or off hand knife between the Timberline Worden or the CRKT Crawford/Kasper

my favorite is also the emerson commander, i carry the chinook as my primary blade. i usually back it up with the commander, but lately i've been backing it up with the crkt point guard. soon as i can i am going to get a gunting for my edc knife. i will probably carry it and the chinook together.

Beside my Starmate it's hard to be "favorite".I usually carry a Hattori integral hunter in the woods or a CS Bushman.
Maybe an axe from Kennedy.I like to wear my MODs (Trident, Razorback) in urban environment, but the Hattori is the perfect companion for the serrated Starmate in any condition.I love that knife.

Have several CRKT knives. Step down from Spyderco, but still good quality for the money.

I'm going to cheat, since this one is pretty much a Spyderco. The Benchmade mini-AFCK, it's my favorite all time knife. RKBA!

So many choices, so little time. I guess I'll have to go by purpose.
Work- A Buck 450- I've beaten it half to death, and it still keeps going.
Tactical- Kershaw Liner Action Tanto- opens as fast as a switchblade, cuts like a straight razor.
Dressy- Case Russlock in Pocketworn Red Bone- sweet looking and sweet cutting.
School- Case Copperlock in Lowe's Blue Bone- very sheeple friendly, but not as much as my sheeple knife.
Sheeple friendly- Old Timer Large Stockman- Nice worn carbon steel, good feel and great cutting power.

All of these have served me well, and I don't hesitate to recommend them to someone looking for an inexpensive carry knife.

That's easy: My Camillus CUDA tanto style, combo edge, black-titanium finish. If you guys like knives you should check out Camillus CUDA. It opens lightening fast, faster than I can open my Spyderco Harpy.

I'm looking into picking up a Benchmade Mel Pardue 856 (wth G-10 handles)... just curious, from those of you who own Benchmade knives, is this a decent little knife? It looks like a good "sunday" knife- friendly, conservative, non-threatening. How are Benchmade's knives? Anyone know anything about this one?

Updating my last response. I got my small Sebbie and wow. No contest.

Guess I too will add a "postscript." My prediction that the CRKT Apache, on its way to me when I posted on 4/30, would become my favorite non-Spydie has come to pass -- sort of.

It is either my second favorite, or tied for first of my non-Spydercos. Another knife I bought has thoroughly confused the issue. The confusion has been worsened by purchase of the Wegner, which is now my favorite Spyderco and overall knife, or tied for 1st in both or one of those categories.

I may be able to end the confusion in a couple/few years, when the custom knife I ordered arrives. But, I think it possible that the Lum Chinese, or the "Lynx" may nudge out the Wegner amongst the Spydercos.
Since that time, I have also bought a Sebenza. I carry it all the time, more than the Apache. Had I not bought the Sebenza, am sure the Apache would be my favorite. I think it to be an excellent self defense blade.

I can't figure out whether it is the meds or . . . ?
