Please excuse the terrible zoomed in phone pic - here's a male American Goldfinch surveying our sunflowers a couple weeks ago -
Finch will eat eat the seed from Coneflowers and Black Eye Susan . Thistle used in Finch feeders are a favorite but they adapt to other plants . They actually suck the juice out of the seed . MG2

Learn something everyday here on the forum and here’s another example from Professor Dan
guessing the Finch knows what’s up…one of our neighbors grows Black Eye Susans and they are beautiful, definitely gonna look into them

The peppers looked great in June, but never produced much. The Scotch Bonnets never produced at all, so I ordered some fresh pods that arrive this week, to smoke and mix with the pods below.
Dehydrated and ready to smoke, left to right: Kalocsa Paprika, PCR Paprika, Esplette. These will be mixed with the Scotch Bonnet to make enough powder and flake to last until next year, but barely.

Very nice. I will be growing habaneros next year, as they do much better here than Scotch Bonnets.

Have you ever used the Flatiron Pepper Grinder? It slices the flakes instead of grinding them. I really prefer it to sprinkling crushed red pepper flakes onto food. We’re going to try growing scotch bonnets next year.

Usually I grind to flakes and powder in advance, using a mortar and pestle, then bottle it and no need for further grinding. I end up with various pepper combinations, some powder and some flake, and some smoked and some not smoked. So plenty of small (this year) bottles of various peppers.
But I will definitely try this - looks like you just break them up good, then put them in the grinder?
