Thank you for the quick reply! I found one that meets all my criteria that I was seeking (Vanadis 4E instead of 3V I had been seeking), just not sure of the sheath. Never really considered the wharnie until I saw it. A little more pricey than the other options, but it sure is a sweet looking blade.

How does that sheath carry for you in scout carry compared to the leather sheath? In the spring/summer/early fall I don't wear very bulky/oversized shirts, I'd like it to still remain pretty concealed and also comfortable.

The kydex carries a little better than the leather for me. I find that the retention is better on the kydex, and because I regularly make parachute jumps with it on my belt, that matters to me (probably more than it does to most people). In terms of general carry, I find them fairly equivalent (I have a slight preference for the kydex, either way). Concealment is a low priority in my life, but a light jacket or untucked shirt covers it easily.
The v4e wharnie is my favorite Guardian 3, of the many (m390, 3v, cruwear, wharnie, drop point, etc) that I own.

Oh, its nice. I love the deep choil/finger groove and the micarta is great. Its a little smooth for my tastes but its excellent quality. The s35vn has been great. It came razor sharp in a really cool box I keep all my SAKs in. The sheath is very slim I took the clip off and it just slides right in the pocket.

Have you ever noticed that Vanadis 4 Extra is more difficult to remove from a magnetic knife rack than other steels? I stopped storing my V4E Guardian 3 that way as I was slowly marring the coating every time I pried the knife loose from the rack.

Now that you've said that I'm interested to try it though.
Have you noticed a difference between v4e and 4v in this regard, or just v4e/4v to other steels?

Surprisingly, my 4V Native 5 is not strongly attracted to the magnetic rack. It's only the V4E Guardian that I has exhibited this peculiar behavior.
The V4E Guardian came with a leather sheath, hence the need to store it unsheathed because of the humid climate in our area.

Welp, I literally made it one day after saying I would be patient haha! The siren's call was too strong for my will power! Vanadis 4E, DLC Wharnie with natural micarta and Kydex sheath on the way :D
Thanks everyone that has answered my many questions, made suggestions and posted photos! It was a little more expensive than what I was telling myself I would spend on my first fixed blade, but what the heck...we only live once right!?

It showed up today! Seems like a pretty cool little knife. Good size blade with a tiny handle that is nicely contoured. A comfortable 3.5 finger grip for me. Came with a nice kydex sheath and thankfully I have an extra G Clip, because they don't provide a clip with the sheath :confused:
Looking forward to using it the rest of the week. Seemed to fit comfortably on my belt, pretty unobtrusive. We'll see how it goes with all my movement and in and out of forklifts/scissor lifts throughout the day! Showed up very sharp, Spyderco level sharp...though of course I gave it a little love anyways :cool:

Got right to work with it so far this morning! As you can see, it definitely sits very well in scout carry and is easily concealed by my shirt, even more so with my safety vest. Surprisingly very comfortable while driving my truck and forklift once I got to work. A great little cutter thus far, made for this kind of warehouse work. 4V has been a favorite steel of mine in the Manix and Shaman, interested if I can find any difference in this particular strand of the steel. Also can't wait to wear in these scales a bit, which are extremely comfortable in hand already as it is.
Down the small fixed blade rabbit hole I go :rolleyes:

I asked Brad to make a G6 with a wharncliffe blade and call it a GSeax! He politely said it was cool idea, but I don't think one request will make it happen.

I've made and heat treated a bunch of knives in both 4V and V4E and I'm confident that if they're heat treated with the same intended goal those two steels are 100% indistinguishable from one another in a knife. That said, it is entirely possible that the heat treat on your new V4E knife is different enough from the heat treat on any prior 4V knives you've experienced that you would notice a difference. Even though they're effectively the same, there is a little extra cool factor with the V4E IMO. Hair splitting aside :p , you've got a bad-a$$ super-high horsepower blade, and I would bet nobody at your work has a better one. :cool:

It really is, I'm loving this little guy already! Glad I've had a lot of work to do this morning. I had a feeling they would be pretty comparable between the steels, which is what I'd like to see anyways because clearly you already know...it's a great steel!
Yes, you are correct! We have a couple knife guys here at work, and some of them have some ridiculous customs that cost $1,000 but of course they would never actually use them, some of them have a blade stock like a half inch thick anyways haha! I'm known as "THE knife guy" around here though

It's official, this knife has vaulted right up with the Manix and just past the Shaman as my favorite overall knife! There's really nothing bad I can say about it, if i had to nitpick the handle could maybe be a touch longer, instead of the Guardian 3 and 3.5, a 3.25 would be terrific. But like I said, that's nitpicking!

That micarta looks good. (Mine is blue/black g-10). Maybe I need to make some micarta scales for mine. :)
