Last night I dug a splinter out of my finger with my Chaparral. It was very sharp for an EDC knife with average edge angles. I found however that a razor blade would have done a better and MUCH easier job. I wanted to slice the skin right on top of the splinter and lift it out instead of digging around with a needle (Mom's favorite tool :) ). I was successful with the Chap but I would never have used it on my 2 year old grandson. I'm thinking for him I'd rather have a very small knife with VERY low edge angles. This would not scare him as much and get the splinter out with the least amount of pain or discomfort as possible. I had more discomfort using the Chaparral on my splinter than I ever have when I slice a finger to the bone. Go figure. Probably the anticipation.

Anyway, that's one thing I did with a Spyderco (and my thoughts about it) last night.

This weekend I knew I had plenty of time on my hands to get to some real work done. That prompted me to think about what blade I wanted to use Saturday to accomplish these tasks. The Cur-Wear has really left me very pleased so I reached for it again. We had an early morning battle with a huge wall of english ivy that has continued to attempt to take over my yard.


Needless to say, the Mule & I won the battle. This morning my wife & I decided to do some ribs and steamed cabbage on the grill this evening (last night was fillet-mignon on the same grill). I again left the task of slicing the onions and fresh cabbage from the farmer's market to the Cru-wear and she preformed as expected.
I really am loving this steel and hope Spyderco brings me (us) a folder with this terrific steel soon.

Used my paramilitary 2 to cut open a pizza box for lunch and then my delica 4 to cut open zip ties and cardboard boxes at work.

A couple of days ago I decided to make a couple of Strop bats. It's a 2x2 with strops on all 4 sides and a handle. I used my Sage4 to carve the handles. I actually ripped a pressure treated 2x4 and carved one end of each into 4.5" handles. The knife would slice phone book paper with ease when I started. After carving the two handles the S30V still sliced the paper like it had just been sharpened. I was amazed the edge was still that good. I was noticing on the second handle that the cutting hadn't gotten any harder.

Since I don't have the leather right now I hope to do a better job than I normally do (I get hurried) shaping and sanding the handles. Then I'll dye them. I may made some more later with some nice wood. These are practice and will be gifts probably. BTW, the strop bat I made a few months ago gets used all the time. I put very inexpensive diamond paste of 3 different COARSE grits and it works great. The DMT paste I think is better quality so I use it for the finer grit. I like the 3 micron.

The knife was 100% comfortable the whole time and the S30V steel held it's own also. Sage4 is a great knife.

PS edit: Edge was sharpened with a 28° back bevel and 36° edge bevel.

Jack, I also find that wood is not too hard on an edge. Cardboard is much harder on an edge.

Ain't that the truth. Just goes to show Mom Nature is a lot better than humans when making stuff. :) You won't find contaminants in her creations. :D

Hey guys,
I used my grasshopper to remove the stitches from the hem on a pair of acu pants that i bough that were a little too short for me.
The splinter picker tip got under the thread with great ease.
Then i used my g10 dragonfly to cut the loose threads around the unsewn fabric. I couldn't even tell i was cutting anything, as the thread just seperated from the fabric with just a touch.
I used my new black blade tenacious to open a bag of gravy train when it came time to feed the dogs.
I think i'm gonna use my native5 today as a food prep knife when we grill the ribeyes the wife picked up yesterday.

I had to scrape hot pink grease pen off the back glass of a Maserati GT because one of our lot porters lost my Leatherman in a Mercedes that was dropped off for service. I should be shot for abusing my Sage 1 in such an offensive manner but without my Leatherman to do such trivial duties I was stuck. Overall a bad day, but I did use my Spyderco. :/

Used my Breeden Rescue to shorted a walking stick Ive been working on and also to smooth out some of the rougher carved areas to prep for sandpaper phase. No particular reaons for using the Breeded other than I didnt need a point and wanted to use it. Im still amazed at how smooth the opening of my Breeden Rescue is - has to be one of my top 5 smoothest openers.

I used an original Paramilitary to help me change the coolant overflow tank in my Passat. It got to cut tape and open boxes and slice hose.

Only picture I took is of the new reservoir installed with the old one sitting next to it. I'm probably gonna to do something fun with the old reservoir, because it caused me much pain and suffering. I'm thinking one ounce twelve gauge slugs, but I'm open to suggestions.
