No liners would, I assume, be even cheaper. But, since the first Sage had liners and the series is intended as a showcase for various lock designers and associated materials built on an otherwise mostly unchanging framework, I would be *slightly* surprised to see a version that does away with liners entirely (metal-handled versions aside, obviously). That doesn't mean it couldn't or won't happen, I just see it as the less likely of the options available. Also, the polishing and finishing of the full liners by that Taiwanese maker is one of the things that gives the CF Sage such an upscale look, so nested liners seem like a departure from a marketable element, and no liners even more so. And I'm not at all familiar with the requirements of this lock as far as liners go—though others say they work fine with unlined FRN, or at least the original version did—so I don't want to tell Spyderco to make it with just unlined G10 without knowing whether or not they've determined that liners would truly be beneficial for their version.redyps04 wrote:I get the point you make with nested liners being potentially less expensive than full liners, but wouldn't no liners be an even cheaper option? It may require slightly more G-10, but would require less tooling which I would guess makes up much of the costs.
That said, if Sal were to come in and say that liners are beneficial and nesting them doesn't significantly increase cost (seems unlikely since, as I understand it, nesting is one of the things that make the Military so expensive), my vote would be for nested liners. I'm not sure if it's the decision I'd make as a manufacturer and marketer, but I think it's the option I'd like most as a user, especially as one who already has a Sage I. Though all Sages are basically the same overall, I like having as much distinction between them as possible—just not necessarily at the expense of them becoming too expensive for me to afford....
Not sure. I guess just swapping scales is more likely to work well.LorenzoL wrote:Do you mean switch blades or just switch the scales?

Flatground Byrds, nice.
You know what I keep thinking? There's the one guy whose signature says 2010, the year of the H1 superhawk... or whatever. Well, it seems like this year is the year of Full Flat Grinds. Almost everything being introduced and released are flat ground.

IIRC prototype pictures can be published if the models are between 3 - 6 months away from production. Spyderco release dates are not set in stone though. From the previous years I expect 90% of the models to become available over the course of this year.Rick Grimes wrote:When are we gonna see some of these for sale? I am salivating over the pictures.

All the models you've seen in this thread will go into production this year. From previous years, I expect almost all the models to become available over the course of this year.tomoto wrote:Wouter, I see that these are listed as 'prototypes' but on most of the ones you've shown you stated some sort of release date. Will these prototypes all surface on dealer shelves? :) If you're permitted to comment to us... please! :p :D hehe

GullWing, we think alike. The Sage III is the one I'm most excited about. I was wondering when the Bolt Lock was going to come back. The original Bolt Lock was one sided. If the Sage III is as smooth as Mr.Blond says it may be better than the axis lock. He also mentioned it can be used one handed and ampidextorous. The biggest complaint with the Manix II CBBL is you have to pull back on both sides to unlock. If theBolt Lock is as good as the Blond one says maybe it can be used in other models. The Perrin looks like a must and of course the Blackie Sage III as well. The Sage III will have tex G10, I like it.
Hope the Sage III comes out around June??
The Perrin PPT is the other folder I like. I like the modifed intergal lock. Its got a Hinderer like stop. The only thing that concerns me is the weight. I'm hoping its not too heavy. I do'nt know why there are complaints about the clip, I like it- at least how it looks. I have'nt tried it but Spyderco usually makes some of the best pocket clips in the buisness.
These are exciting times for Spyderco collectors !! :spyder:

Couldn't have said it better myself :D The Para is on top of my list too... :cool:hickster wrote:After further, careful study of the Para 2 pics, all I can say is:
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! :D
Everything I was lukewarm/didn't care for about the Para (which I still like overall), seems to have been addressed. I'll bet this is the sleeper in the lineup. Can't wait to feel it in my hand because it seems to be the most practical EDC design overall. Now bring it on in S90V!
