Any updates? Gossips? Rumors?
I spoke with Spyderco earlier this week about the Rhino. They assured me that they are working hard to bring the Rhino to market as soon as possible. (Which is good, because the anticipation is slowly killing me. :D) But seriously, I am really looking forward to seeing the finished model in person.

Michael, There are a lot of us agonizing over the wait for this one, but I'm sure none more than you. I hope it exceeds all of your expectations. Thanks for the update. :)

Update from Sal over on BF....

"The Rhino design had a hiccup. the shipment came in and it didn't meet QC specs and the entire shipment was squashed. My apologies to the designer. It's a beautiful design and we'd hoped to have it out long before now. This is not the first time that a run didn't meet our quality control requirements and it's always a drag. But we feel we owe it to our customers and our designers to offer the best quality possible. The entire 1200 pc run is being re-made. That's why e don't like to formerly announce the release of a new model until it goes through QC."

Bittersweet news - glad we eventually will get something of the best quality. I wonder who has to foot the bill for something like this: does the manufacturer eat it because it was potentially an error on their part or does Spyderco have to absorb it?

I can wait if that is what it takes to make it right. It will certainly be worth the wait. :D

We always try to work out something that is fair. These makers are our long term partners.

And that is why I buy spyderco...
I have yet to get a real dud. You are a good man Sal. You treat your customers and suppliers well.

Thanks, Sal. Not sure if you are willing to elaborate on what the issue was, but it has to be agonizing to have to wait for a knife to ship overseas only to find it not 100%. Do your manufacturers have a QA/QC process or is Spyderco the first and final stop for approval? Forgive if there is already a post on your manufacturing processes.

Thank you for the kind words, Chad. :) You are quite welcome. I am grateful for Sal's update as well. Even though things have been temporarily delayed with the Rhino, at least we have a bearing on where things are in the process. 2017 is going to be another epic year for us Spyderco fans.

I wonder if we'll have 1200 Rhinos at next year's (or whenever the next one is) factory 2nds sale? Rhino's for everyone! ;)

haha I had the same thought! Especially after seeing a couple entire runs of kitchen knives at this years sale. I was told it was because Spyderco was unhappy with the serrations, so the whole run was seconded.

I'm glad to hear that we will eventually be getting a high quality Rhino. Conspiracy theories were starting to form in my head about these being pushed back until after the Para 3 release. ;)

I hear you, man. ;) I am continuously impressed with Spyderco's commitment to quality. They practice what they preach and it show in everything they do. I am very excited to see the Rhino!

Very impressed with your dedication to quality Sal. I'll be picking one of these up when they are available :)

Not meeting the QC standards meaning not safe or not pretty? I could handle testing a "not pretty" version of this. (I know this never happens.)

I was interested in the Rhino when I saw it pictured in the 2016 Mid-year Product Guide - and apparently I was oblivious that it was designed by a fellow Hoosier... guess I know what the saved penny jar is going toward next now...

That's great! :) It is also always cool to see a fellow Hoosier here.
