Temperance 1 in H-1 Salt Series

#281

Post by JD Spydo »

My ideal desire for a new H-1, Salt Series blade would be to bring back the Original Temperance 1 model in H-1 with a yellow handle. To me that would be the ultimate survival type fixed blade. I still dearly love and use my Temp 1 a lot. The TEmp 1 to me is my favorite outdoor knife as well especially when they also made the original in full SE. To offer up the Temp 1 in full SE and plain edge would be great IMO.

I would also like to see the Superhawk return in full SE with H-1 steel because I never for the life of me could understand why they didn't make the Superhawk in full SE to begin with.

Also you might consider a Street Beat in H-1. A small fixed blade would also be excellent for all around survival/prepper uses as well as a great camping, hunting and outdoor blade.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!

Just thought I'd bump this thread since we haven't spoken about this for a few months. I'm still using my PAC salt and tasman on a daily basis and love them both dearly, but I'm sure if anything new comes of this thread it will be an immediate "must have" for my salt lineup!

Always thought a Military Salt would work well.... Maybe its just me.
Edit: kick it up a notch, add the bolt action lock and tip up carry.

Surfingringo wrote:Wow, that's some pretty exciting news Sal! I've got complete faith that you guys are going to give us something better than I could imagine. It would be awesome to see this result in a new iconic salt knife. We can't have an h1 military, but maybe we will get a knife that becomes to the salt line what the military is to the rest of spyderco knives. I would take that deal, what about you TBD? ;)

On a side note, I managed to coerce a buddy on the other site into selling me one of his unused aqua salts so I have that waiting on me when I go to the states in a couple of weeks. Looks like a really useful design. I'm kind of surprised that it didn't stay in production as I've never heard anything but spectacular reviews. I wonder if the knife would have sold better if a similar blade had been packed into this new g10 "salt" handle Sals talking about?
When you hold the Aqua Salt you may never go back to a folder :p This is one of my favorite Spydies, also designed by Sal. Please do yourself a favor and put a nice lanyard on it. I would hate to see that bad boy end up in the water. The ergo's on this one are incredible. The blade a work of art. A knife looking for a hand to hold. :D I used to surf in my younger days growing up in Daytona, and Ormond Beach. Have actually done the headstand thing on an old Hansen 50-50, though certainly not on a wave like that. Two footer for me. ;) Good times, surfin and chasing girls on the beach. Sorry got away from the reason for the thread: Perhaps something like a Catcherman XL with heavier and longer blade? Please Sal, a lot of folks would love it. Oops just saw a thread from 2013 where Sal didn't think the Catcherman was a good idea. Oh well

Another great thread and topic here.

I have now found my new passion with Spyderco salts and am so excited to put this new lineup of mine to work. I fish with a group of guys and we plan to put these all to test this year both in fresh and salt water systems. The black handle Aqua will be fixed to my side while on the water, and the others will be used for various bait jobs, fish bleeding and cleaning and hopefully some killer salmon photos to share soon. Im going to add a Tasman and Pacific to happy family as well.

Here are a couple Iphone snaps to show you how proud I am to now have these in my boats.

Also, here is a snap of a beach launch dory boat I have under construction as well :)

Cheers,
DT

I'd LOVE to see a catcherman revival (I had one, sold it, regret it big time, and now can't find one for a reasonable price), or any SALT with some sick yellow G10.

Its my understanding, that there may be a special run for the USCG, that may include a orange G10 Autonomy. Drool........

Not a "SALT" by normal definition, but does anyone have experiences and photos of the Tusk in the wild? It still sits atop my "to buy" list.

No, but I am very curious to see how the steel performs...especially how it compares to h1.

Would like a 3 inch blade with a pointed tip. G 10 handles. Or evan a salt 1 with a pointed tip would be perfect for me.

Hey kylems, you should try regrinding the spine. Works perfectly and is very simple. Lots of folks have done it on here. I do it to all of mine. Just put a piece of tape on the blade as a guide and go slow and quench to keep it from over heating. Finish it off with a block and sandpaper.mseriously, it's really simple and will completely transform the knife!

Funny, there's a thread going on bf right now about that. As usual with h1 there's lots of speculation and conjecture. Sal even chimed in a couple of times but I still don't know the answer to your question. I am sticking with my theory that h1 is enchanted with powerful magic! :) .

I try to go slow on mine and not let it get too hot just to be safe.

please please please bring back the aqua salt, I have maybe 30 knives and half of them are fillet knives for fishing, the only thing that is really sadly missing in h1 is a really nice fillet knife. the aqua salt handle is perfect and blade length nice, maybe slightly longer, and a thin full flat grind blade. if h1 steel isnt suited to thin blades then the same size blade as the aqua salt with a full flat grind. seriously sal there are so many of us with fillet knives its really an untapped market for spyderco fixed blades. I live on a sailing cat and have 7 salt knives, unfortunately in australia we can no longer import tasman salts as they are a one handed opening locked blade, so I think there is a market for slipit salt range such as the uk penknife and a hawkbill version of the uk penknife or tasman. I would think there is a huge market in safety mad australia for a hawkbill serrated edge salt h1 that we can import. as a fellow sailor I know you are aware of the necessity for this type of knife as a safety item and lots of guys in the marine industry are looking for something similar. the game fishing fraternity spend big money on substandard fillet knives and are just begging for a corrosion free fillet knife and a sturdier bait knife that wont be a ball of rust in a few months when they next go fishing and pull the knife out of a locker. I just bought a cabella alaskan game fillet knife in s30v a month ago and already it has corrosion all over the knife especially around the scales so please a nice fillet knife Ill definitely buy several. :D
