My family has been sick for about a week, though I've escaped with just a cough so far due to the massive amounts of vitamin C and just being more a recluse than normal. Now I just need to get back out to the garage to work on Mules so I can show them here.
Heres one of my S35VN mules with my first attempt at scales. The g10 is finished out to 600 grit and then hand polished with some rubbing compound. :D Pics are mediocre, its rainy and overcast today so its pretty dark outside.
Here's mine, with green linen micarta.
I have a RAT RC-4 and love the looks and grip of the linen micarta scales, so i tried to reproduce it on my mule and Fallkniven F1.
I shortened the Kicker of the mule. I think it's way too long and prevents you from using it in the kitchen and food prep.
Although I'm still very new at scales, I've done a few and here are two recent ones. They're both 9Cr18Mo Mules with G-10 scales.
First one is a removable textured black and yellow combo with a kydex sheath. The belt clips are Spyderco G-Clips on adapters for better balance and carry comfort.
(I need to wipe down the blade before a photo op)
And here's a top view:

The 2nd one is a black/blue layered scales and a kydex sheath to go along with it.
I'm really pleased at how this turned out:
My other one is a factory 2nd S90V blade with some generic black plastic scales with plexiglass liners. It's not pretty and it scratches easily but it's a **** of a slicer with a 10 degrees per side edge. It's neat being able to see the holes and pins through the liner.

Super awesome. Great work. The black-yellow combo is hot. Where did you get the screws for that? I've been surfing around trying to find some kind of spacer that I can put screws in to make removable scales and apparently haven't been asking google the right questions.
The "leaf" shape of the sheaths are very spydie and elegant.
Wow Dan,
Those look amazing and nicely finished, beautifull work!
2cha, i used "long doorhandle tubes with thread." , i don't know the english name for them..i live in Holland, they fit exactly in te little mule holes. They are normally used to tighten the metal doorplates with a long screw. They are M4, european size.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. :) I really need some photography lessons. Everything's dark and the details are not showing up. :p
For the screw hardware, I contacted http://www.halperntitanium.com and bought the same set they use for their removable scales. Since I bought my G-10 material from them, I thought to give them a try.
I found that the spacer and screw diameters are too close to give much support to the scales. Instead of drilling out the scales all the way through to match the spacers, I had to partially drill in the undersides and create nested channels for them. Then I drilled some shallow divots for the screws on top. That left a thin bit of scale material between the top of the spacers and the screw heads for better support.
For the next one, I'm going to the hardware store to see if I can find matching screws with a bigger diameter so I can drill through the scales and not worry about strength. I'll probably shorten the spacers to make the screws fit completely flush too.
Good luck.

Thanks again Marion!

dsmegst, That kitchen Mule is something I have been thinking about for a while. Nicely done.
