I haven't been following the topic closely enough, but why wouldn't we let each other know when we see or hear about a deal? Thought we were looking out for each other to save a few bucks around here, especially these days!
Totally agree , I say go for it ! Help others when possible. MG2

Because in most instances you will only be facilitating Spyderco in cracking down on the dealer. Which will most likely result in no more deals from that seller and other sellers taking note.

Remember Dack! Maybe we could just send encrypted smoke signals?

Smoke signals are advertising.

Why would SPYDERCO care? They sell to the dealer and get there money. If the dealer sells at whatever price is that not there decision to make to keep there business going instead of shutting down or reneging like Knifeworks?

I don’t think Spyderco really goes hard on Dealers for selling purchased stock that hasn’t moved, and will let a dealer sell crazy low for 48 hours to move some merch.
..as long as the knife in question isn’t permanently undersold, at least price fluctuates to keep people guessing. (My head cannon at least)
Like SMKW and their S45VN Shaman.. that was so tempting for so long- and even then got a KC S90V Shaman and then the Rex76 SNK instead.
Was kinda interested in why this thead popped up on first page lol

First - exclusives are exempt from MAP and can be priced as the dealers want
Second - there already is a huge discussion about MAP, look for the thread and read up on it. Basically nowadays Spyderco policy is that any discounts under MAP are basically impossible, even the "add to cart or login to see price" ones, and pointing out dealers that do offer those discounts just causes those discounts to disappear

Hold on now is this what I am hearing?

Some of y'all must have missed what Kristi posted in another thread a couple of weeks ago:
"Spyderco has not restricted what dealers can sell our products for. Dealers remain free to sell at any price they choose. That has not changed.
What has changed is how advertised pricing is handled. We’ve made it clear that practices designed to display or communicate a lower-than-MAP price (whether directly or indirectly) fall outside the intent of the policy. In the past, some of these practices were treated as acceptable workarounds. That is no longer the case."

Concerning advertised price please give a clear example of what that means it sounds all legal like and possibly deceptive.
If SPYDERCO doesn’t care what does this even mean?

Not trying to be a jerk just not getting what is being shared.
Ok looked some things up so MAP is Manufacturers Advertised Price as in lowest advertised price allowed but the can sell for less just not advertise for less. Right?
Okay so this is Price Fixing by hobbling what a seller can advertise and then sell for.
I don’t like or agree with that.
But it is what it is. I am sure there are reasons as there are for just about anything. Don’t care, I still think that it stinks.
Now the question goes like this if I am just me a SPYDERCO knife buying forum participant and I find a good deal and post it here does SPYDERCO jump on there case?
If this is the case is it something recent? This thread has been here a long time and I can’t see it having made it this long if that is so.
Are people just speculating or is this the end of this thread?

Dealers cannot sell for a lower price at checkout
IF anyone anywhere on earth makes it known that a lower price is possible.
Even if a dealer makes no mention of a lower price being possible anywhere on their site or even anywhere else, and a price reduction is possible only once one has reached the final stage of checkout, if anyone anywhere shares information that a lower price is possible at final checkout, then that is now defined as advertising.
Apparently.

So I guess the only strategy is cold calling dealers and asking for a lower price, and then being mum?

Oh well then so long to a truly useful thread what a shame
It looks like the new and upcoming delivered thread is dying out also.
Let’s see both functional useful threads dying hmmmmm. Lots of negativity in my head gonna squelch them for the most part, but one thing I will say I don’t think SPYDERCO is going to survive when Sal is out of the picture seeing too many college boy and agreement around a table company culture out of touch type decisions.

This feels like an extreme take. I don't think a 50 year-old company is "not going to survive" because they decided to close a few obvious loopholes around MAP. I miss the discounts too, but I 100% understand why an American company doesn't want to race to the bottom on price, that's a losing game if there ever was one. I also imagine that Spyderco's target market is not those people who buy knives based primarily on price.

I think what would help are some examples directly from Spyderco of a dealer abiding by the rules of advertising, yet able to sell for whatever they like, including below MAP. How would that actually work? Seems like it would be pretty hard to separate the two, unless like a poster above mentioned, you specifically reached out to inquire about a price from a dealer and they were able to communicate that to you in a way that isn't considered advertising.
I suppose the other way it would work is if a dealer advertised a certain price, and then after you paid for it, the transaction automatically generated an percentage-based refund, but I have no idea if that would be feasible or not.
That being said, I'm all for when dealers go out on a limb and offer a knife for a very limited-yet-stellar price like the example a ways back. I have no idea if that somehow violates the policy, but it sure generates some great interest.

This thread is alive and well. Not dead at all.
There was a "crazy deal" posted six days and it has been active ever since. Spyderco isn't out to get anyone and they're clearly not using this thread to shut down deals the moment they're posted.
Keep the crazy deals coming. We all appreciate them.

Thanks but I honestly only know what’s publicly out there. As much as anyone else can know. I don’t have any inside info and I definitely do not speak for Spyderco. I just pay close attention to the what's going on and spend way too much time reading the forum.
I'm not aware of any deals to share at the moment. Maybe we'll get a MAP holiday soon...
