Yes, there are quite some huts, shelters, cabins of varioud kinds around here:
Hunters or lumberjacks cabins, primitive shelters for shepherds in the lower parts of the mountains, shelters more specifically for mountaineers higher up, some old huts for customs officers (where I live there is the border between Austria and Germany - and there was a lot of smuggling for centuries before the European union was formed, sometimes people made a good living out of it. And custom officers (armed, more like special policeman) patrolled the border, stayed in the huts overnight and were on the hunt for smugglers).
Also, just as a remark: Austria IS a country of mountains indeed, but what many don´t know: We also have a lot of wood here, about 50% of Austria is actually covered with wood, which is 2/3 more than the average of whole Europe

Atleast, that's how it works in the U.S.
If you leave them unlocked, someone who needs it will(usually) be respectful. Leave it locked, it's likely to be broken into and disrespected.
Not that I would condone such behavior. But, I would have zero empathy for someone who locked it up and came back to find it trashed.
My grandfather would leave a box of non perishables on the counter and fresh bedding folded on the bed. It was used on several occasions and never once vandalized. On atleast one occasion, there was a thank you note left behind, with a little bit of money.
Courtesy begets respect.
You are so right, and this is really how it should be - but I´d say in Austria certainly more huts are locked than not..
But then: Austria is pretty "wild" for
middle Europe in many parts, but "remote" is probably still not AS "remote" as in many parts of the US (I´ve been to Alaska and Eastern California / Nevada for example, it´s certainly more "remote" there in many places than you can have it in Austria)

This is definitely not a thing in Texas...must be a cold weather state thing. Trespassing in Texas is a big no-no.

Can confirm its a thing in Utah at least. Once upon a time I got a couple hours of sleep in a mountain patrol shack where skiing is popular.
Texas is pretty big on no trespassing though. As a kid I remember being told not to go into my one neighbors yard. The guy sat on his porch in a rocking chair with a shotgun on his lap watching for people that ignored the no trespassing signs.
Turns out I own other knives than the Millie :rolleyes: Some of them aren't half bad either :D

Definitely, at least rural North East Texas where I grew up, trespassing was a HUGE No-No. Just my $.02!

It is more of a cold weather/snow thing. Also, these are little cabins out in the middle of the wilderness. If a snow storm blows in and someone gets caught in it, shelter can mean the difference between life and death.
Hunting in Texas(extreme southwest, rather) isn't the same as the rest of the country. They don't really have hunting shacks, in the same sense. "Ranches" would be a better term.

Long answer: Saddened by the loss of a favorite, I was ready to start a thread called “What Spyderco is NOT in your pocket today?” Then as I was putting my boots on this morning I saw something under the edge of my recliner and after two weeks we were reunited (and it feels so good!) After the extended absence from my rotation I had to leave my REX Chief home for the first time since I got it and give the Po-Po some pocket time.

Finally got this one fixed and decided to take it for a stroll. The clip is definitely a letdown. Aside from that, it is a great knife. Really wonderful blade shape, that is a lot thinner upfront, than I imagined it would be.
My only other gripe would be, that some of the edges are a bit sharp on the handle. But, that can be fixed easily enough.
With a little modification to the existing clip or a custom, it will be a very nice tool.

Such a shame it wasn't popular enough to invest in a light weight model. I think I would prefer it to my Manix 2 LW.

Spydiechef has been seeing a lot of pocket time lately, now that the M4 C36 is getting a nice patina :D
It's slowly selling me on Ti folders, and I'm now eyeing the WE Gava...maybe a birthday/new job present from me to me ? :p
