This was at the Cape Cod Canal, which is a little over an hour’s drive from Boston. Some world class fish are caught here every year, so it has become a popular spot for hopeful anglers like myself. There is potential for it to be a fishing trip of a lifetime!huyfishin wrote: ↑Wed Aug 09, 2023 2:14 pmI've never caught a striper before. Its on my bucketlist! This is around boston area?? I just checked flights from where I am all the way to boston. Seems like it could be a trip of a lifetime.Mushroom wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 1:05 pmCouple schoolies from the canal this morning -

With the current moving, these little schoolies are surprisingly strong!
Caught four stripers, all about the same size, and a blue fish that got off the hook right when I got it to the rocks.
Might go back again tomorrow morning. If the full moon currents push enough bait through, it should make for a hot bite. Maybe even something bigger than a schoolie.
Agreed, very nice walleye and a Siren too!!! I haven’t caught many but they are delicious and that’s a good one
Nice fish and killer Shimano set up that I know you had strapped to the MUSHROOM EDITION BIKEMushroom wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 3:10 pmBiggest striper of the year so far for me! Of course I didn’t have a tape or scale so I couldn’t weigh it or measure it but it really felt like a slot size fish. (28”-31”)
Caught it in the Cape Cod Canal this morning on my new Canal setup.
11ft Shimano Tiralejo rod and Shimano Ultegra Ci4+ 14000 reel! First season using it but I have been loving this combo so far. It’s light weight enough that I can comfortably cast for hours without really needing a break and it’s plenty strong enough to haul in big fish against the current in the canal.
Shimano actually markets this rod and reel pairing as a “Long Cast Concept” which apparently to helps provide longer casts. I think I’m a believer because I’ve been out casting pretty much everyone else fishing near me when using it, it’s impressive.
Hope you can try it sometime , I like it a lot . In Minnesota they have size regulations and how many yo can take home to insure a healthy population . Buddies eat like Kings at cabin and take what they can legally take home .
Nice rainbows buddy, the little ones eat better though and I can cook the bones out that's what I tell myself anyways.MacLaren wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:20 pmThanks Nick
Another good evening in the Blue Ridge
This rainbow was right at 18" - still not nearly as big as the one my sister caught.
I'd like to hook one or 10 of those stripers your catchin Nick
Walleyes my favorite freshwatwr fish to eat! That's a good size one there. Do you guys eat the cheeks out of them? It almost taste like a scallop, and you cook them about the same too. My buddy is a guide for walleye and had a gallon zip lock bag full of them by end of season. One of the best meals of my life when we cooked them up.Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 3:19 pmHope you can try it sometime , I like it a lot . Well at least you look good riding that short distance and eventually you’ll really need it for a long haulMushroom wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 8:19 pmThanks Salty!SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:37 am

You know it!
Of course now that I spent the time and money to set up this bike, I’ve caught all my fish within walking distance of the parking lot but aside from that, the bike setup has worked like a dream so far.
Fantastic! We visited a beautiful state park yesterday and fished off a pier, supposedly for rainbow trout. A local told us that he hadn't caught a rainbow there in several weeks. We caught 12 fish between us, all baby throwbacks, but four different species of bream-like fish. So it was interesting. My friend caught what looked like a Warmouth, which really surprised me.Mushroom wrote: ↑Sat Aug 12, 2023 8:19 pmThanks Salty!SaltyCaribbeanDfly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 10, 2023 8:37 am
