Those photos nearly gave me a Panix attack, and my wife almost slapped me for looking a knife porn. :D

Hello, fellas. New to the board here.

I've been looking/obsessing over getting the "perfect" EDC knife for about a week now. I've watched more YouTube reviews and read more forum posts than I care to admit and have been literally losing sleep staying up late to do so!

Background: I work in an office and wear scrubs. I only have a need for a knife a couple times a week maybe, light duty. I bought my first EDC a couple years ago. Just got a small cheap Kershaw OD-2 (2 inch blade) to see if I would even carry it. It's been a decent little knife but now I want to upgrade to a nicer, slightly larger EDC knife. I don't want to become a collector because of budgetary reasons, but I'm willing to spend $100-$150 or so on a great EDC knife that I can carry for years to come.

The Para 3 seems like it would fit my needs, but I do not like the clip placement at all. I prefer deeper carry to help keep it from falling out and to make sliding my hand into my pocket easier. This led me to considering the Sage 5 instead.

For those that own both, do you have a preference?

Also I have seen various aftermarket clips mentioned in this thread. What's the going price for these?

Any other Spydercos I should be considering in this size, weight, and price range (< $150).

I'll probably get kicked off the forum for posting this but the other model I'm considering is a BM Mini-grip.

If you are wearing scrubs I recommend a dragonfly or chapparal

Out of the two, I only have the Para 3. I get my clips from MXG Gear on ebay - blue4you2010 is the seller. They go for about $25. I have them on my Delica and PM2 as well. Very happy with them. Item ships quick.

Nice, I didn't expect W&W to have these already, passed up on the preorder because I figured it'd be a while. Glad to hear you're so impressed.

Wow, that actually loops pretty **** good. Looks like that would be deep enough for my purposes. Thanks for the info.

I may try the factory clip at first and just have this in the back of my mind in case I think it's riding too high.

The factory clip will also ride deeper with tip down carry which it will be for mine when it reaches the Netherlands (shipped today). My first of the family was a PM which only had tip down carry, when I got a PM2 I always carried it tip down as well and the Military's are also tip down.

Might wanna try that, if you don't mind tip down it might be deep enough carry for you.

For that clip from MXG Gear, I think there are two versions of this one; short and long. This is the shorter one. There are also other options from this seller for the Para.

The end of that clip seems to stick up instead of flat. Does it dig your palm?

Welcome aboard! :) The PM3 is certainly a good option, but it may be a bit bigger/heavier for EDC if worn in lighter garments (such as scrubs).
If you are mainly looking for an all-around user knife, I would highly recommend the following models (in no particular order):
1. Native5 lightweight
2. Delica4
3. Dragonfly2
4. Salt1
5. Chapparal
Have you tried any of the Salt Series? They are 100% rust proof thanks to the H1 steel and other rust-proof components. The Salt1 is essentially an earlier variation of the Delica. Fwiw, the Delica is almost the same size as the Mini-Grip, but features a Backlock and is a bit thinner and has a more comfortable grip (IMO at least). Best advice would be to head to a B&M knife store and handle as many different models that you can.

If I had to chose only one tonight, I would choose the Dragonfly2 (any variation). It is one of Spyderco's most popular models.

Personally, I'd lean toward the Chaparral

Not at all. Both PM2 and P3, for my hands and grip, have a hot spot in the middle of the top of the handle, both chocked up and regular. Not bad, but it is there with firm grip. I can't feel the clip, this one or the stock one, at all.

Did some measurements. The stock clip is 4mm tall at the tallest part, and 3mm at the tip. These clips are 6mm at the tallest part and 3mm at the tip.

Had my PM2 for a while. Carried it every day, for all types of activities, office, hiking, camping, MTBing, even swimming. Now the P3 is my office blade, and PM2 for everything else. I don't collect knives; have 6 folders and 3 fixed blades. I use every one I have; some more than others. Had a knife of some kind since I was 6 years old. Cut myself pretty good at that age. Still have a scar at 40+.

Finally decided to join this forum.
