Not as costly as machining G10 in a new handle and on top of that you would need all steel on the knife to also be H1. I am fine with the same Endura handles no liners because It would definitely keep the cost down which is good in a time like this (especially for us 18 year olds) :D :pJosh K wrote:If we stick with FRN we're looking at the same endura handles. New molds would be very costly.
War is mostly waiting.
New mold would cost at least $250,000.brandonreed2008 wrote:Not as costly as machining G10 in a new handle and on top of that you would need all steel on the knife to also be H1. I think that's more costly then G-10. If we're looking at a new handle design. I love the Chinook/Superhawk handle design.
You wouldn't have to make it a backlock, H1 liner/bbl lock would be cool. Love the idea of a H1 liner lock. Ti or another nonrusting steel can be used, you don't have to use H1. Other steels other similar nonrusting properties, they just don't hold an edge and are ill suited for a blade.

I didn't know it's that much. So I am all for same endura linerless FRN to keep it as cheap as possible. You don't need a special handle design to cut fishing line, bait, food, whatever moist situation you have. :) so spyderhawk would be to tasman as pacific salt is to salt 1?

As far as I know, the only rustless folders have been backlocks. I stated previously that I want to see Spyderco push the envelope on this. Make it a liner/comp lock. BBL. G-10 handles, liners, whatever. :)brandonreed2008 wrote:I didn't know it's that much. So I am all for same endura linerless FRN to keep it as cheap as possible. The H1 Spyderhawk/Sea Hawk/whatever they call it, would probably be the old Endurahawk/Spyderhawk with a H1 blade.
I'd buy one, but I'd like two handle colors and PE/SE options.
....Just thinking out loud here
You have the current Pacific Salt, Its dimensions are pretty darn close to the original SpyderHawk.
The tooling for the original SpyderHawk blade could still very well be kicking around, but might need a bit of tweaking.
You'd have a fairly inexpensive, Larger brother of the Tasman, with excellant qualities.

I don't mind a larger version of the Tasman. I love the Tasman. :)jb2009 wrote:....Just thinking out loud here

I just feel it's a bit plain. :o
Its plain in a good way!! Its an excellant all around utility knife and if you loose it or break it....you wont be as upset!!Josh K wrote:I don't mind a larger version of the Tasman. I love the Tasman. :)

Then we can always talk about a Carbon Fiber version

True. :)jb2009 wrote:Its plain in a good way!! Its an excellant all around utility knife and if you loose it or break it....you wont be as upset!!
Doesn't need to be CF or marble. Just some yellow G-10 liner lock. :D I love how Spyderco does liner locks and I wish they made more of them.jb2009 wrote: Then we can always talk about a Carbon Fiber version
Dearly wishing for a H1 Military. And a M4 Military. Add in an old school 52100 Military with wood scales while you're at it.
Keep the curved RH TD clip please!

I hear ya.edge-e wrote:I think it's time for a up scale version of the salt series. :) .Superhawk handle in either G-10 or CF with the wire clip (love that wire clip).H1 of course, heck I would even like it in the endura 4 or older style handle. It's time for a H1 hawkbill blade 3.5'' and over.

This seems to sound familiar, but I'm not sure why...
:p :Dyablanowitz wrote:I'm not a huge fan of hawkbills, but I do find them useful for some things. I would buy an H-1 Spyderhawk or two just because replacing my VG-10 Spyderhawk would be an expensive hassle. The H-1 steel alone would make it different enough from the original Spyderhawk to keep the collectors from hollering, especially if they used yellow FRN. We know the mold for the handle is still in use; assuming they still have the tooling for the blade and assuming it will work for H-1 as well as VG-10, maybe Sal would consider a Sprint run of Spyderhawk Salts to test the waters before committing to a full new model.

I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.
