Frankly to be able to put $20 down for a guaranteed knife is pretty awesome. Compared to the Sprint rat race, imho, these exclusives are awesome.

I want them to get the knife right, but I would like an update on where it is at as well.

I don't see $200 on re-sale, maybe $160. The Blue M390 Para2 is coming back at $180 and M390 has a longer track-record than CTS-204P, so why would this one be any more expensive?

Coming back isn't the same as "here". I speculate it's going to come down to color and I think dark green is a much more mainstream than smurf blue.

The Orange one at CS with XHP sold out in 16 days I recall. This one sold out in 6 days. There were a couple orange ones not spoken for which promptly were bumped to $200 at the retailer.

Actually, I think when it comes to things like this, having a track record is going to hurt you. Everyone wants to try a new steel. No one is going to pay more for S30V than they are for something that SHOULD be better that just came out.

*edit* As for the Blue M390 model they were selling for $250+ on eBay when they were still available at BBS, though that could be attributed to worldwide shipping, but the sales I watched go that high only shipped US domestic.

It's BS how people buy up just to sell on auction sites thoroughly stuffing eBay's and PayPal's pockets with their ridiculous fees.

When you put down a deposit and it's 3-4 months late, an update is reasonable. If they take care of their customers they will be pleased to do so.

Actually I thought what Jeff did was pretty clever. When I first saw the Orange XHP Para2 on CS it was $127. I didn't buy it immediately because it was orange. The next morning I decided to buy it but the price had gone up, $140?. Every day the price went up until the last ones were at $200. So the customers that check his site the most often tended to get the best deal, which I presume is what he intended.

I would have to assume that Knifeworks would rather get the knives in and sell them. They probably had to put down a certain amount of money to have Spyderco make them so taking our $20 isn't making them rich.

When the Orange one was first up it was $117, which I was lucky enough to get it at that price, but even at $127 it was a good deal. All in all that was an interesting pre-order for sure.

February 2013 is my bet now.

Any idea what is going on with this knife? Knifeworks took our deposits ten months ago and no communication at all from them in a very long time. I'm sure they would love to get the knife out as soon as possible, and I would wager the current situation is out of their control. Nevertheless I think the lack of updates is a mark of poor customer service.

Yea.... CTS-204p has been released on the Southard, so it shouldn't be long now.

Whats weird is that the second run of the blue M390 Paramilitary twos have been shipped.

I agree. KW should be sending updates monthly if only to say we have no estimated date yet. All the email addresses are in their system and they should be able to take five minutes to let us know what they know.

I wouldn't pile all the blame on them. They have responded the two times I have emailed them. Also, let's not forget we're on the manufacturer's forum. Sal has chimed in before. He could chime in now. Especially considering we're closing in on a year since orders were placed.

I actually think it was wise of Spyderco to put out some blue paras first. If the only para's to hit the para drought market were a brand new sprint run the flipping would be too ridiculous.

I'm not so much blaming them as saying they are missing an opportunity to improve relations with their customers by staying in communication after going past the original estimated shipping date. They are also costing themselves time by answering individual emails, many of which would never have been sent if they were sending a periodic update. Communication is basic customer service and is a win - win: more satisfied customers = more sales.

I dunno, they were going for ridiculous amounts during the first batch while they were still available through BBS... And those sales didn't ship anywhere other than U.S. Domestic.

IMHO we got the chance to jump on a VERY anticipated quasi-Sprint. This thread alone has 14,000 views and while part of that is due to the delay the rest is out of excitement. The tiny downpayment just means a very good chance of getting the knife as intended.

I was strung along with a preordered Dodo for like 6 months and then the dealer couldn't provide the knife. By then half the ones on ebay for the same price were gone and it was a mad dash to find one. I'll throw $20 down anytime.
