I am still luke warm on the chief. Ive put about 6 edges on my xhp one. The rex and the xhp both came at the same time tho. I do want to tinker with thinning down both the edge and primary bevels. And set the apex finish with a coarse 300 ish stone bcuz of the way i cut with it. Or shall i say historically cut with it.

Just received my (first) Native Chief. It's in S30V because I like to have "basic" production models of a design I like, allows me to go all out with more serenity :squinting-tongue

Used it to prep some food today, it's pretty nice. 3,2mm stock for a blade that long give the FFG a good thin edge ! My particular model has a weird thing near the tip, but I don't think it'll break because of it. It looks like a scratch but it's going from the spine to just before the edge.

Comments on Carbon Fiber S90V model, first impressions:

1) carries well - don't really notice it in my front pocket (daily wear is a standard pair of blue jeans)
2) clips in and unclips out of the pocket well - not too much friction in either direction but held in place as necessary
3) awkward in the hand at first but getting more comfortable (was the same with the Endura), chief's wide handle eliminates hot spots I find on narrower handled knives like the G10 Calypso and G10 Stretch when grasping firmly
4) blade tip has a lot of presence (likely because D4 is my typical EDC so more edge less tip presence)

I'd suggest people put it on their shortlist as one to try - BUT, I'm not going to as I like that they remain available for a while when released!

I had several thick 6” card long tubes to cut up. My Urban just folded, my Chaparral was too short to slice with intent, but the s90v Chief bossed them, piercing and slicing with ease. The blade actually got hot.

Well, I just ordered a standard S30V Native Chief (my 3rd Spyderco purchase this year); more knives than I’ve purchased in a single year in some time. The combination of having wanted a Chief for a while, the prices going up next month, and the fact that today would have been my dad’s 100th birthday, were the deciding factors.

Somehow managed to snag a new REX45 Chief from a small shop in Germany that I had never heard of before, right before christmas. My first Chief, awesome knife. Right out of the box used it to dice 8 pound of meat for the cat´s consumption. Very thin and slicey, great ergonomics for the hand, and many options to grip it. Just a real knife to do knife things with.
The Steel is starting to develop a patina. Very nice.

I tried to take a pic but it's really not showing as in real, we can only see part of it even tho it goes down to the edge, fainting a bit.

I see it , I don’t think it should be a concern . Maybe others can give their opinion who have more expertise. Regards MG2

I don't think so either, looks more like a long scratch than anything else. But I don't know much about this so I questionned myself about it.

Since it's powdered metallurgy, I don't know if cracks appear as often, especially if it passed QC.

Maybe Sal or Mr. Janich will see this and be able to explain it for certain.

Received mine today, and I'm very happy with it.
It's a big knife that doesn't feel overly big in hand. In fact, it feels just right. And I have medium-sized hands. I love this knife!

Glad to hear it, it's a fantastic design! It's not large in pocket either...
