Thinner then the assist. ;)

It's pretty thin to me at least. I know the Tasman Salt I just got is thinner then the D'Allara, but the D'Allara's handle is 3D contoured, with full liners for the BBL, and has that wonderful bi-directional texturing.

On getting the Tasman salt, I realize the need for a larger Superhawk style knife in H1, however I don't think I'd lean towards simpler is better.

Push it a bit. Make something with nested liners in CF or G-10. Parts can be made out of H1 if they need to be.

I think I paid $170 for my Superhawk, and I'd be willing to pay at least as much for one in H1.

Simpler is easier and cheaper, but I would love to see Spyderco push H1 and rustless construction to the limits with this one. :)

I don't mean to sound disagreeable, but I doubt we will ever get CF or G10 scales, comp lock, or wire clip. I think that would price it our of the range of the target-group of consumers (fishermen and people who really use the crap out of their knives). Sal seems a bit reluctant to make a Spyderhawk-sized hawkbill in the first place, so I think we should ask for something as palatable to Sal as possible. Thus, I think that asking for a plain-jane H-1 Spyderhawk (with jimping) is most likely to get us what we're asking for.

Besides, I doubt the current economic conditions would allow for the production of a folder incorperating H-1, CF, and a comp lock. Maybe once the bubble re-inflates again...

If this were affordable, I would get one (maybe two). Some of us don't have a huge budget for knives, hehe. But I really DO like the look of this knife.

SimpleisGood I see your points coming from both directions :) . However I'm a firm believer in seting your goals high. In other words shoot for the stars and if you only make it to the moon you've still accomplished a great deal of what you set out to do. And keep in mind it's good to let them know what we like in a knife.

With that said I think it's only healthy from a marketing, consumer driven set of customer desires to let the man at the top know just how much you appreciate all those great features in a knife. I think this thread is sending a great message that's being listened to.

No matter what we end up getting you can be totally assured that if Spyderco makes the knife it will be a premium blade. It might not fulfill everyone's dream of what they would want in a top notch Hawkbill but it will be a huge leap just getting an H-1 Spyderhawk.

Personally I'm hoping for a super-functional working Hawkbill. In my job I could use a Hawkbill of that caliber. Let's don't give up too soon now :) . Because I am seeing more and more new blade users discover just how much you can do with a premium Hawkbill. I've got 2 guys where I work who now want me to get them a Harpy. Progress is slow but it is going in our direction.

It's highly unlikely that :spyder: would invest the money required to make a new FRN mold. I think it's most likely they would use the Endura 3/Pacific Salt handle, like the original Spyderhawk.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I agree, JD. I am only looking at what, in my view, is most realistic. However, a plain H-1 Spyderhawk with jimping would, for me, be hitting the stars! :D

I was quite pleased to see the most recent post in the General Discussion being in this thread, belonging to Sal.

Excellent. I think this thread is clear evidence of that.

A Hawkbill ready to hatch

#233

Post by JD Spydo »

I still want them to do this H-1 Spyderhawk in SE & PE both. To me a Hawkbill that's not available in SE just doesn't seem complete or fully loaded for demanding work.

The Jimping is something I would like. The FRN handle similar or improved over the original would be great. Although I would celebrated if it were done with a G-10 handle.

A wire clip could be a nice addition. Albeit a clip similar to the Gunting clip would be super as well.

And screw construction over rivot construction would be especially nice.

I would be up for at least two of each, maybe more of the plain edge, being in the construction field I can see many many uses for these knives, and the plus being the H1...John

Hi JD,

That would be a new model. New tooling, etc. not likely in the next 2 years or more.

I will be the first in line at my local Spyderco dealer if the H1 Spyderhawk would become a reality.
