Thank you! I see the male cardinals often, but this is one of maybe 2 shots I’ve gotten of a female.

Lucky’s looking good so far and it’s easy to see where he got stuck a couple years ago by another hunter but he doesn’t get a pass from me this year 🍀

I’m not an entomologist by any means, but I think it’s a kind of assassin bug? If it has a raised part on its back that looks kinda like half of a sawblade, it is probably a wheel bug. Beneficial predators!

Cool, that looks like an annual cicada! I've been hearing them a lot around here lately too but haven't seen any yet.

We had a huge 17-year cicada bloom locally in June this year too. Part of Brood XIV.

Saw the nymphs after they first emerged in late May and early June.

Then not long after that I was seeing their exoskeletons all over the place.

Never saw any soft Cicadas after they had freshly shed but there were tons of adults flying around for a few weeks. They were unavoidable while driving through certain areas and it sounded like driving through a hailstorm of insects. They definitely make a mess on the windshield... :grin-squint

Yep it’s our annual Cicada . I also found several exoskeletons this afternoon. We didn’t get the the big 17 year as some places but have experienced it in the past . Literally waves of sound nonstop ! We also have Cicada Killer mounds in edges of our landscaping . Bad looking but on a mission hunting hunting their prey to continue the cycle . Great pics Nick .
