Yeah, no need to deprive yourself of a nice knife just because of some perceived injustice on the part of one dealer.

Wow! Seems I could even get my pre-ordered Dodo from KW (just told them to wait for the green P2 to throw it in one mail box).
When they appeared and seemed to be extinct right afterwards I became impatient and got one off the bay. The thing about that one was the grind: not all way back! So after grinding an edge on it I have to consider it a user. Though I don't collect knives to keep them locked away it is exciting to have one in fresh from factory condition while taking the other one as a strange looking EDC (though I know it will be hard to spread butter on bread with that blade).

Thanks to a fellow forumite, I will have an orange Dodo yet.

It is unfortunate that KC takes more preorders than they actually are able to fill. I ordered a brown Millie in CTS-XHP from them, then a bit later forgot I had ordered it and ordered another one. Once I realized it had placed a 2nd order for the same knife, I just figured "oh well, I'll have a spare". They were able to fill my first order, but (after many more weeks of waiting and receiving the "your order is still on backorder" email) they finally said they were not able to fill the order and canceled it.
But at least they don't charge your card until they get it. To me that is what would be shady, to accept full payment for more orders than they can fill.
I don't mind KW charging just the initial $20 deposit, that way they know you are serious about buying the knife and not backing out, and I haven't had KW fail me yet (but only a couple of preorders through them so far).

I canceled my pre-order with KC a while back after being lucky enough to be able to pick up two from different dealers. They should have set a limit, like Howes does, rather than leaving it open ended like they did.

According to the phone conversations I had with KC, they pulled the listing from the site as soon as they reached a limit of orders they knew they could fill. However weeks later they are told that the last 150 or so knives will not be delivered to them because Spyderco was out. This means that they realistically thought they would get over 20% of the total Dodos that were produced (of the 800 to 1000 in this sprint run)? That seems a bit presumptuous to think that you are only one dealer of many many great dealers in the knife network. You think you are big enough to corner + 20% of these Sprints? Wow. That part is what really got under my skin. I know they didn't charge to card until the order was filled, but they had me (and my partitioned funds) on hold for months just to tell me "Oops, we allowed way to may pre-orders". "Spyderco had no idea they would receive this kind of response." That fact may be true, but has nothing to do with the amount of pre-orders that KC thought they could fill.

I was #15 on a popular dealer's list and four months later they sent the "im sorry" email. In fact, when asked if I should buy a spare since they were available at $127 everywhere they said, "I wouldn't worry. We know you will have yours fulfilled, we just don't know when."
I understand this isn't an exact science but with conservative estimates from Spyderco the dealer should get within a stone's throw. Between these and fluffy disclaimers no customer should have a reason to be upset.

Chris is a great guy and it is nice to see that Dodo has found a good home. Look forward to future pics of it getting used.

I'd about given up on the Dodo, but got one on Friday at Blade.
The amazing (to me) part is where I found it.
I was at the Spyderco booth and jokingly asked the lady I was talking too if anyone had gotten a Dodo.
She hands me a prototype knife to look at while she goes away for a few minutes. Then comes back and says the guys in the sales booth are holding one for me.
I go over to the next booth and sure enough they have one (and only one), and at a very decent price. :D
Needless to say, I was thrilled.

Got mine at the same place Saturday! Used to have a blue one, but I think I like the orange better.

Well, as I have one and can't order from that site: Warriors and Wonders lists the Dodo as "In Stock"

Is anyone still looking for the orange Dodo w/ the CPMS30V? WarriorsandWonders still has them listed as in stock, I'm considering placing an order. I don't have unlimited funds but if someone wants me to order one for them please get in touch. I will be checking my messages at least until I place the order.

Thanks guys.. Initially I was thrilled that I might be able to get one but unfortunately, WarriorsandWonders doesn't ship outside US and Canada.

So if anyone can assist me to get one at a decent price and able to ship to Singapore.. I'm all ears..

I would just wait for the CG sprint later this year (assuming no delays). $180 plus shipping from Canada for the orange one won't be much cheaper. Well, if you adore orange I can understand tho.

I was trying to wait for the carbon fiber sprint but I buckled and bought an orange one off ebay for $160 even though I don't like orange. I'm thinking about getting custom scales for it.
