I once had a shark run into the side of my truck when I was driving. Head butt my rear drivers side door!! Some would say it was a deer, but I'm definitely going with shark!

Land Sharks are very dangerous, I’m thankful you survived, some people have not been so lucky ! Dan

When I was living in San Diego 25 or 30 years ago a shark killed a woman and child hiking in a national park or some such place. Calif then passed a law that you cannot kill sharks, as the natives were getting restless and threatening the narrative. So now people who live in the country just shoot a shark on their property and bury it. It never happened.

Any wild animal can be potentially dangerous.
Was this meant to be a serious statement? Which would you rather be in a pool with, a deer or a great white shark? I think we all know the answer. The answer is this thread is about sharks.
I thought the answer was
42
Pool: Could I be in the pool with one, or a few, Cougars? I'd be ok with that

I've killed a couple sharks. Once with a 9mm (that was quite a story) and once with a rock. Still have the rattle from the one I shot somewhere.

It is estimated that bears kill over two million salmon a year. Attacks by salmon on bears are much more rare.

Would a Mora knife, a Victorinox lock blade, and a Spyderco Pole Star Lock knife all be a good trio to carry when salmon fishing?
And if a Kodiak bear sees the person would it try to eat them or not?

Would you recommend a H1, H2, or Magnacut Spyderco folder for salmon to carry to defend against bear attacks? And do trout face similar threats?

Someone knowledgeable about the trout industry told me impact weapons are preferred. Is this true in your experience or what can I tell him to convince him Spyderco knives are the best?

Sharks attack more people in the USA every year than coyotes. This thread is now about how to defend ourselves from sharks. I recommend a mix of ju jitsu and vegetable juicing.
Sharks are easy. Just punch them in the nose.
I wouldn't say sharks are easy. Back in 2008, a great white killed a swimmer training with a group of other triathletes off of Solana Beach in San Diego. It happened very suddenly. He never even saw the shark before it got his legs from underneath. He never had a chance to punch it in the nose, or to go for its eye.

That's the colloquial advice but several people, who do not have names or details, have told me that eye gouging is far more effective, especially when in the jaws of a shark.
What do you guys think, serrated Tasman or plain edge Salt 2 for defensive carry while body surfing?
Friendly reminder to everyone to stay on topic. This thread is about sharks.
I'd probably bet on serrated to do a better job in that situation.

Sharks? Well, my son seems to be terrified of this Shark! It’s like pulling teeth to get him to use it!

What a plot twist! So now, come to find out that Shark vacuums are indeed an apex predator. More attacks and also near death experiences compared to coyotes and sharks. So grateful for all the information learned on this forum!!

I had a shark vacuum that just would not die. They don’t make them like that anymore.
