why is everyone afraid of magnamax being restricted to salt models when it lacks salt levels of corrosion resistance?

very strange.

If my memory serves me correctly, the Magnacut mule could be rusted in some situations, then a year went by (a year surely full of effort figuring out what they could do with it), then it ended up in the Salt series.
The same guy designed both and they both likely had approximately the same target for corrosion resistance.
So Magnamax being in the Salt series doesn't seem completely out of the realm of possibilities quite yet. It's still early in the game.

Golden models will be first. Would be interesting to see it in a UKPK first, but most likely native/native chief, PM2/3, or Manix.

I’m hoping that Magna-Max lands at Seki first, a Magna-max endura would a dream knife.

If history is anything to go by it’ll probably be a Native 5 first, then filter down to all the other Golden models over a 2 year period.

History and tradition in tandem with innovation is one of the strongholds of Spyderco so Native 5 is in front of the row I guess , and rightly so. One of the backbone models of the brand !

I'm happy with whatever models they'll release with the steel in as long as it's a non-FRN Manix 2 or a non-FRN Stretch 2/XL.

Bringing this one back to the top, as I have a few questions...

1) Toughness rating? I tried to do some research, but didn't find anything. Along the lines of the 'stainless K390' thing, what can we reasonably expect? 7ft lbs Charpy test? 10? I know it is on a gradient related to heat treat, but just looking for anything. I know it is compared to K390, and looking at the K390 chart, it looks like it flatlines around 65+ or so at around 7ft lbs give or take.

2) Is it unreasonable to expect anything past the MT46 to come out in 2026? I'm ready for a MM N5, Lil' Native LW, Manix 2 and Bodacious haha...

The first two heats from Crucible had weird variance. Things might have been a bit crazy since they were closing at the time of the second heat. I would assume the first heat is closer to what we will see in the production steel since Larrin wanted more chromium to increase the corrosion resistance.

As to your second question, here is a list of the models requested for Magnamax, which Sal wanted compiled. So perhaps the first models will be Manix 2, Native 5, Bodacious, and Native Chief.
