Without the purchase of consumer goods there would be many more starving children in the world. That guy lacks a basic understanding of economics and is guilty of another of the sins - Pride. He basically told you he is superior to you through his virtue signaling. I have little tolerance for those who are so judgemental.

Read an interesting article on the Amish people, how they've their lives very simple, they are not gluttons, and lets say some of their ideas have on how to keep life simple & debit free make very good sense.

The Amish survive without car, wi fi, electricity, credit cards, and much of what our world is about. Owning or desiring the latest, or greatest, and last being collector off much, for just collecting.

I use to tell people if you not paying my way in life, and providing me with all my wants, and needs do not tell me how to live my life, if I paying my own way.

How should we reply to this claim?
You waste your time talking to people like this then want to waste our time getting us involved?

I don't talk to people like that for a reason. For several reasons in fact.

Play stupid games , get stupid prizes.

Rich people collect cars, and other collectable stuff. A homeless person collects aluminum cans and panhandles.
You're really straining the meaning of the word "collecting" here. Homeless people collect cans like alcoholics collect DUIs.

Just sharing an idea, people with money collect the things they like, because they have extra funds. Most work hard to be able to have the extra income to fund collection, hobbies, or go on nice vacations, etc.

You shouldn't reply. Who cares what he thinks? He probably has minimal impact on society, and is of little value to you or the community. Let him be.

If you work hard, earn a few bucks, and choose to spend it on a bunch of knives, you really shouldn't concern yourself with the opinion of some buttinsky. Life your life, have fun, be well. If some jamoke is forced to live a life of frugality, that's ok, as long as he doesn't try to impose his crazy notions on others.

Those who consume a number of knives that woke folks would consider "beyond their fair share," are actually philanthropists. The receptionist who picks up the main line at Spyderco? Who pays for her kids' shoes and Frosted Flakes? The buyers of knives do. The guy pouring plastic pellets into the injection molding machine--how's he pay his mortgage? From the people buying knives.

You, Mister SpyderEdgeForever, are helping society. The joker who you were speaking with sounds like the sort who does little for anyone.

Why, yes, I regard my excess Spydies to be a flaw in my personality, but I reserve the right to be curious.

I am a Cigar Glutton, and pay my own way with money I earned.

My hobby is my right, not to be chastised or shamed about.
