Kunwu just came out with a compression-style lock on one of their larger knives. It has a bar that runs between the scales, and thru the the lock bar tab, to stabilize the lock bar and prevent it from twisting (and releasing) if the knife is torqued during use. This might be the answer to compression locks on larger LW knives. (Images from Metal Complex youtube channel)
That's because their compression style lock doesn't wedge between the stop pin and the blade. That pin through the release area is what is locking the blade. Looks like Sals design but functioning more like a liner lock. I am super tempted to buy a bowie styled Kunwu but that lock is not in the same realm as spyderco.
Might as well show the video, here is the exact moment I went from ohh cool to it just another fidget toy.
Been a while since we had a PM2 run with cool blade shape.
How about a hollow grind?
Saber grind! There's something about the saber ground version of the stretch that just looks SO good. A saber ground pm2 would be incredible.
They made one. It was an exclusive can’t remember the site, but it had an emerson wave
Blade Ops Emerson PM2 with saber grind! Its like trying to cut with a pry bar... Mine currently has a scandi grind hehe. I think they sold out in 15 minutes years ago. https://bladeops.com/spyderco-para-mili ... exclusive/

Thank you for the clarification. I had not seen this video. I only saw it in another video that he did where he showed a brief "preview" of this Kunwu. He made it sound like it was more similar to a Spyderco compression lock

I just love how truly genius the compression lock is from an engineering stand point. Then we have the stretch 2 being discussed which is my favorite Spyderco of all time. Throw in clip point blade comments. This thread is very much a unique mash up that makes this forum interesting. I have a hard time asking for something new from Spyderco because the expectation of the final product is perfection.

The compression lock in the Ikuchi works very similarly to this. The stop pins which stops the blade while open are in the blade. the compression arm works against another stop pin which also stops the blade while closed.
Of course i can only speak for myself, but the day every Spyderco comes with compression lock is when i look elsewhere for interesting designs and knives.
I don't hate the compression lock but i don't see it as the second coming of Christ/ best invention since sliced bread either.. :)
What about the design dont you like? Personally I think its the best overall lock design however comes with the big flaw of having pretty poor closed bias (basically just the detent which is relatively weak). This is only an issue if clipped in a waste band and not in a pocket, and even then very rare to be an issue but still an issue none the less. For instance I have the Salt PM2 which is amazing, but I dont trust the compression lock tip up in my shorts or bathing suit when jumping in and out of the water all day.
I think a compression lock with some type of way to increase closed bias would be my ideal lock.
I kinda agree in that I wouldnt want it on everything, some models I prefer with other locks, the stretch 2 back lock I love, yet I generally dont like back locks, it just works on the stretch 2 and other seki stuff (endura/endela/delica) and yet Id prefer the native 5 with a compression lock over the back lock, I generally hate liner locks but love it on the OG millie and think thats the lock that should have been on the Kapara, its the only model I kinda dislike the compression lock on just because of the handle design and how thin it is in that area, but overall I do like the compression lock the best for most models

That’s it! Thanks! That grind certainly looks like it cuts like a pry bar
