I want another G-10 type Manbug. I don't particularly care what steel is chosen, as long as the scales are G-10, micarta, or carbon fiber. I just despise FRN.

And preferably in Leaf variant!

Wharncliffe and Hawkbill are favorites.

I don't know how in the world they can make the ManBug with the CF scale, and keep the price under 200 dollars. The G10 won't be as much trouble, but still going to make the ManBug quite pricey.

I get the attraction of these two materials though, they are really nice when done right. I have had some of both of these, not done correctly and I hated them.

Pay the money for G10 and/or CF and it was so cheaply done they looked and felt just Cheap lol...

I have not had that much trouble with my frn, what are the issues you guys have with it. The fact of how easy these scales are made with the frn is the biggy to keep these knives from getting really expensive.

The frn scales with the grip pattern they use really helps me hold on to the knives I have with it. The frn I have and use enough to see, it holds up to the wear pretty well also, least for me it has.

So, I am curious what is the issues with the frn?

Most complaints I see about FRN are about how it feels cheap. I guess because it's plastic and light. They don't like that it the scales can flex when they squeeze them together as hard as they can.


I don't share that sentiment, and it's one of my preferred handle materials.

I am like you, I like the texture as coarse and bidirectional as it is, it is also just pretty darn Tuff and doesn't smooth off as the old stuff did. I like it.

Now on the bigger knives with frn scales, I do want full stainless liners with it. With these little ManBug 's and how they make the grip/scales all in one piece, liners is not going to work.

If your flexing this ManBug using it, might obviously need a bigger and/or sharper knife. If it's the only one you got, I don't think you could crush or break the scales on the ManBug by using it. The frn are really pretty darn stout.

Dang if Spyderco was to make a CF model of these, guess I would be in line to get mine too, even if it's 200 bucks lol. It would be neat.

I edc the little DogTag knife that is the CF model, there is no flexibility in it. It's quite the little knife with open and closed ball detent and S30V steel.

Yes, that's my issue. I'm not a hard user, and my knives are mostly pocket jewelry, so I'm focused on the aesthetics over the functionality.

I just used my Manbug wharnie to slice open a shipping box and it went through the tape, label pouch and paper label in the pouch with no effort. It’s still on the factory edge. It may be my sharpest Spydie straight from the factory.

Which version would you pick for opening small boxes? Leaf or wharncliffe?

I've got a Leaf and a Drop Point. I find myself carrying the Leaf more often.
