I'm honestly wondering if sales demand is actually suffering a bit for the model.
It hasn't been selling. It didn't sell anywhere at the original price and was panned. Small dealers with just a couple on hand didn't sell out right from the first release, which is never a good sign. At MAP sales it sold a bit more but still not particularly well. I was hopeful the price drop for this year would reheat sales, but even though it's available at $165-180 it's just sitting around.

I really, really want a salt model and CF/s90v sprint. I imagine from Spyderco's side it would be hard to justify either, but it's also sort of a chicken or egg scenario because without something like a sweet sprint or exclusive to try to heat up the market it appears sales won't be good. They did release a s90v/CF Siren despite those sales being bad post lock-gate...but you can still get that from dealers despite having been released years ago and priced maybe $60-80 under MAP every sale.

Still holding out hope though
Wondering where the Bodacious is available from an authorized Spyderco Dealer for $165 to $180? There were some less than $200 prices around black Friday, and other random dates. Otherwise the price is $225+ from almost all dealers?
DLC version is still $156 @ DackOutdoors in cart, $151 after coupon 5OFF. I'm tempted to buy another

Add me to the list of those hoping for more Bodacious variants. Really enjoying my satin S30V model when I want something with a little more heft to it.

Personal desires would be SPY27 with a nice blue scale color, or whatever tool steel Golden wants to work with with at least Cruwear-level wear resistance (so, Cruwear, PD#1, Rex45, K390, 10V, 15V...less interested in 3V, 52100, etc on a folder).

Unfortunately also share @phaust's concerns about slow sales - not sure the Bodacious managed the same traction as the Stretch 2 XL on launch, for example, and the Military 2 and all the 15V runs have definitely gotten more press recently even with the price drop.

So what's the deal with Dack Outdoors, they just take forever to ship?

That's my understanding. Patience makes up part of the price lol.

Well wayta shoot me down directly!? :thinking :winking-tongue I'm kidding, we all have our flavors, I was just throwing those out there. Still carry both of my 52100 regularly though.

But just thought about this, what about a Bodacious wharncliffe? Is there enough room in the handle?
Just saw a custom ti knife that has a silhouette that vaguely reminded me of the Bodacious but had a sheepsfoot blade

The backspacer could be a problem. I've been trying different backspacers for my wharnie PM2. Some fit. Some don't. Most likely a wharnie Bodie would just need a smidge shorter blade.

Not unless they made the blade short enough to clear the end of the back spacer, but then the edge would also probably move into the lanyard tube space too. Besides all that it could probably be done if they gave it some kind of extra big kick that stops the blade from closing as far and then it would stop on the same place as the current blade shape, but would also then stick out further. This is basically how the Caribbean sheepsfoot works vs the leaf blade.

Yeah kind of what I figured, but cool to imagine.
At least we have the Yojimbo as a mainstay in the line up now.

I'm sorry man... I can rust M4 in my pocket in the summer, or the fine edge off of 1095. I just need some coarse edge slicing capability to make a lot of tool steels worth it :crying-face

If we do get a 52100 Bodacious I will happily celebrate with you and take it for a good omen that more steels are on the way, haha

Magnacut is my first choice, followed by Cruwear. S90V with carbon fiber (CF) would be great too, or S110V & G-10. G-10, micarta or CF, with texture (not smooth), only please.

I already have 3 shamans....bodacious not even on my radar. Dont see a need as they are so similar. I would imagine other folks are feeling the same.

I still haven't handled a Bodacious yet, but my strong guess is that it will feel better in my hand than the Shaman. The grip for me never felt as good as the flat handled Golden models; I know that sounds off since contouring should make things more comfortable. But I just like the way the flat scales lock into place in the palm. I also didn't particularly like the thickness of the Shaman blade in practice, although it's thickness does make it a cool, bad mf blade no doubt. I do much prefer the lines and aesthetic of the Bodacious.

Opinions are definitely subjective but to me this is like saying a standard 3 series BMW is so similar to an M3 so I'm not interested in a M3. The Bodacious is absolutely a higher performance knife, I don't think this is even debatable. It has thinner blade stock and is a better slicer out of the box. Ergonomics are also subjective but I think the performance can't be debated. There's more between these knives than just having a choil or not.

DACK.

Anyway, I hate that it’s not selling. It’s by far my favorite large Spyderco. Disliked the Shaman, and LOVE this thing. It gets all the pocket time now when I’m carrying a bigger knife, and I’d love a variant.

Considering how many people really enjoy the Shaman and how many sell, maybe that's explanation why this design gets overlooked?
I'm pretty confident that I could figure out how to operate both a Shaman and Bodacious just the same, so I'm often slightly confused when people have these super hard set stances on love and hate for a handle.... I get preferences, but actual love and hate, that's intense.

People love the Shaman, it just wasn’t for me. Very short usable blade for a huge feeling knife in the pocket. Blade is too thick. The choil hits you on the finger when it closes. I didn’t like carrying it. The Bodacious fixes all my perceived flaws, and once I got it it really amplifies how badly flawed the Shaman was for me. That said, it’s all just opinion and obviously the majority of the market likes the Shaman better, so I’m the outlier.
