Assuming the goal is to eventually hang on to a girlfriend, maybe it's time to switch up your courting tactics?

Imagine how many knives Spyderco would have sold if Magic Johnson had bought a Spyderco knife for every one of the "girlfriends" he was with during his heyday.

I usually do introduce my partner to carrying a Spyderco but I have to admit it's only been the one partner these last 25 years! She carries a Dragonfly and has an lc200n Pac Salt 2 in SE for gardening/farm use.

I purchased my GF their first Spyderco.

Acquaintances purchased their own!

I have actually had to introduce boyfriends to carrying knives. It’s kinda sad really.

Good for you! Some get education early, but most guys don’t mature until they are in the thirties - Ha! (myself included)
I was trained to always have your keys, wallet, pocket knife & lighter at all times - guess that includes a phone now too…

Good point… I mostly blame their upbringing, lol. The majority of them have been from beach towns and such. I remember thinking ‘why can’t I find a man who was a Boy Scout and at least knows how to start a campfire. Maybe he will have a knife and can cut a tie wrap if needed’.

Yeah we all need to add the cell phone to that list. Pretty soon we will need more pockets.

Heh, heh, heh. You're cracking me up, here. The problem is that we gentlemen are always confused about what girls want.

On one hand, you're looking for a man who can shave with his Spyderco Autonomy 2 SE, can start a fire with his steely stare, and can break his tie-wrap restraints the moment the terrorists leave the room. But these boys can't even leave the house without their phone in case mom calls.

Trust me when I tell you that I could go on and on the modern male stereotype. But I'm afraid my flavor of humor might send many to their safe-zones, and when Kristi comes in to work tomorrow morning, she'd have to clean up the mess and give me a stern warning. The first day back to work after a long weekend can be hectic enough, so I'll just shut up about it.

Your best bet is to do like Jurmuscle and hand out Spydercos on the first date. If by the third date the guy hasn't cut off a finger, then consider him a "keeper."

I tried and was a major fail . Thought she would like a small Rescue and Delica, nope ! MG2

I hand out knives to my new GF's.

I teach my female acquaintances how to safely and effective carry and use Spyderco knives!

I don’t think the following standards are too high: 1) have a job 2) don’t be scared of soap, water, or the gym 3) know how to start a fire and 4) carry/ know how to use / know how to maintain a knife.

If I were single at the moment, I probably would start handing out Ladybugs on 2nd dates, lol.

To let you in on a little secret...
I carry a Ladybug when I ride...
and there's nothing wrong with that.

The only Spyderco I've given away is an orange Dragonfly to my wife because the color almost perfectly matches her '65 Mustang. But you know what? She didn't like it. She carries around a little three-blade slipjoint with pretty wooden scales... and there's nothing wrong with that.

I honestly feel like the ladybug is a better knife than the manbug… at least in K390. It has less belly, blade is slicier, and reminds me more of my Stretch 2.

That's the exact reason I prefer the Ladybug. When riding in this area, cacti are real hazards. When slicing through layers of epidermis in order to remove a sticker or splinter, a pointy blade is FAR better.

Ouch. I hate splinters. I’m a wuss. I don’t think I could dig a splinter out with my Spyderco.

Many years ago my wife was at a gathering just for women. These ladies all know me. Somebody needed a knife and she was the only one present who had one. When her friends wondered how she happened to carry a knife, she replied, “You can’t be married to Bill and not carry a knife!” They all got a good laugh. She carries a SAK Tinker in her purse plus a Classic on her key ring. Locking folders are outside her comfort zone.
