Just one medium grit sharpmaker rod is too big?
You could deliberately break one in order to get smaller pieces, but that's not a "nice" solution somehow...
I figured it would shatter. How do you break it?

Where’s ol 40mm when we need him.

I accidentally dropped a brown rod on the tile floor and it broke, all I needed was some caps and it was just like that Lansky product just like a shorter sharpmaker stone. Think that’s what 40mm did as well

I've carried a Goldenstone in my backpack but it's a bit heavy. I'm waiting for the Webfoot to come out which should be lighter. Until then I would carry a single diamond or CBN rod.
Webfoot ? Do tell…

Yeah, now I remember. I shall probably build a combo with the Goldenstone.

I designed the Double Stuff 2 as a portable stone that could sharpen serrations, That's why we tooled up for the part. I don't think any other portable sharpener on the market will work as well.

Is there a tutorial, Sal ? Do you sharpen scallop by scallop ?

Hi Marius,

One would use the same method as you would use for the sharpmaker. I do not think that sharpening each serration separately is effective. I

The 702 M/F profile stones have been standard in my EDC bag for years and have served me well in countless situations, even with serrated edges. The 702 were the 4 inch (outdoor)version of the longer 701 stones, unfortunately both are no longer made.

lansky makes a pocket sized ceramic stone specifically for spyderco.
https://lansky.com/products/spyder-sharpener/
Oh that seems perfect!
it works well enough for a quick touch-up, especially on softer steels, which i prefer. i've used it on h1, lc200n, and s30v (and some others from other manufacturers) and it does the trick. it's about the equivalent to the brown sharpmaker rods, so it's not a super fine edge and it's not reprofiling... just bringing the edge back after a little use.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

Well I’ve broken 2 brown Sharpmaker stones in ~20 years… dropping them on the floor. They broke pretty much in half. I have pieces scattered in various kits. The Doublestuff 2 is the right stuff though. Great pocket stone. The newer white ceramic seems a bit toothier than my last remaining original Sharpmaker rod, I prefer it. Bridges the gap between the CBN and ceramic well.

Sal, just a piece of feedback for you. When I go to spyderco webpage for sharpeners, double stuff 2 doesn’t show up. Might be an oversight?

A diamond wet saw for cutting tile does a fine job cutting ceramic rods. A hammer is effective but harder to control. Scoring with a Dremel diamond wheel would help steer the break where you want it.

Right, not listed automatically, though it actually IS there: But just if one uses the search function and types in "double stuff 2" ...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):

Yep, they´ll certainly have to fix that - as you say, people who "just" browse through the sharpener section of the site and are not aware of that specific product (MOST people I guess, including me till not so long ago) currently will never find and see the Double Stuff 2 on the Spyderco site.

Kristi said she got it sorted and you should be able to see the "2" while browsing Sharpeners.

Thanx Kristi.
