Slow down and enjoy the ride man!
Lol I am. I'm just bored and doing research. I got 4 day weekend.
Ha, shopping is what we do when we are bored.

To me, research is when you crawl through the mud, go up and down and pull guard for a couple years, collect the data and let the data point you to what you need.

Don't get me wrong, we all justify shopping and knife buys to fill what ever categories we create for ourselves. I like to buy 2 of each and justify it as succession planning as I have twin boys too.

For the past four years a Spyderco ClipiTool Standard has been my EDC.
They can be had for $70, offering a 3.5 inch blade and great utility.

Nothing beats the Pacific Salt in saber ground H1 for this role.

I used to carry one as a beater when I expected to do something that would beat up my nicer knives.

Ended up carrying it full time because I grew to like it more than the nicer knives.

It's lighter, cheaper, rust proof, faster to sharpen and the steel is tougher than most my "nice" knives.

There's no other knife I'd rather have in my pocket. There's never a time where something needs cut and I have to think about whether its ok to use my really nice and rare sprint run $300 pocket knife for the job. I just pull out my Pacific and cut what needs cut.

As far as general EDC goes I'd look into the Nitecore Tip 2. Used to carry around full sized flashlights for the last 20 years but this keychain sized light is all I need for most situations. Keep a Fenix PD35 in my backpack.

Nothing wrong with asking questions. As you can see most people like to give a honest opinion.

Thank you all I appreciate the information as always.

I'd say a Byrd. An FRN Cara Cara 2 is like $35. Easy to sharpen, and easy to misuse without guilt because, again, it's $35.

Same steel as a Tenacious for less money, and you get a lot more edge.

i don't think anyone is seriously condemning you. we've just all been where you are. most of these knives aren't going anywhere, so i think they're just trying to encourage you to take your time and see what you like before diving in too deep. obviously you can do whatever you want and we're happy to help where we can along the way.

I feel what you guys are saying lol. I am thinking I need to do the same. I'm also in that "honeymoon phase" with the new knife lol. And alot of this stuff is new to me like "stropping". I was able to work out a deal tho and will no longer have the S110V. I was too worried about it chipping and sharpening it. I will now have a cru-wear.

Yep, and that's what we're trying to tell ya...enjoy the ride, enjoy that honeymoon phase with that PM2. Use it and carry it for a few weeks before worrying about other knives, steels and sharpening.

I know I did the same as you after joining this forum and quickly went from 2 knives to a dozen. Started chasing all the cool new sprint run and exclusive steels before I even understood what reprofiling was. I overwhelmed myself trying to learn every aspect of everything.

These days, I've figured out what works for me and doesn't over the past few years. Now, the ride is relaxing and full of great conversation with a lot of great people on this forum. Many of whom helped me along the way.

Hard to beat a salt for a quality "beater" knife. Pick whatever one suits your fancy.
Because desolate places allow us to breathe. And most people don't even know they're out of breath.

I feel that. Sorry to ask so many questions lol. Just was curious and this forum is so helpful. But yes. I have already been thinking of only having the 1 knife lol. For now anyways. I'm glad I was able to aquire a arguably better steel for all around use too.

I've done quite a bit of stuff like you wrote, and a good bit more - along those lines, with the H1 Pacific Salts, Salts, Enduras, Delicas, and Stretch 1s.
Never had a bad issue with any of them for it either. Much the opposite in fact.

Stretch 1, and H1 Pacific Salt 1.

That said, I found that the Salt and Delica were (although darn right diminutive feeling in hand & use) actually big "enough" for 99.9% of what I needed and used my knife(s).

Comfort in hand & use? Preferred? Stretch 1, and H1 Pacific Salt.

A stretch salt (LC200N or MagnaCut) would make pretty much everything else obsolete in my view.

Just wanted to put some S where my B is... Hope this helps in the decision making.

I went with Pacific Salt H1 vs Frost/Mora(30yearold, river-used, beater) in an abusive muck test.
Threw em in dirt.
IMG_20220619_201546148 (2)hvmstart.jpg
Stomped them.
IMG_20220619_201612389firststomp (2).jpg
Covered with dirt and smashed them with a shovel.
IMG_20220619_201738754shovel (2).jpg
Got some nasty old water with bugs, and a lovely dipping scoop.
IMG_20220619_201936468water (2).jpg
IMG_20220619_201936468water (2).jpg (70.86 KiB) Viewed 1712 times
Splash after splash and the Mora came out first. Lesson 1. Cheaper is better. Hi Vis is better. And the Mora floats in dirt/mud.

IMG_20220619_202008132morafirst (2).jpg (85.73 KiB) Viewed 1712 times
Then the real mud came.
IMG_20220619_202126193hvmpour (2).jpg
IMG_20220619_202126193hvmpour (2).jpg (65.38 KiB) Viewed 1712 times
Mucked em up real good.
IMG_20220619_202113300hvmmuck (2).jpg
In the end there was really no difference.
IMG_20220619_202228241hvmdone (2).jpg

Conclusion, a folder and a fixed blade are very complementary. It was different type of effort to really wash the dirt from the pivot vs really clean a fixed blade that goes into a pack and not a dirty pocket.

Failure in methodology, none of this use/abuse occurred in a "pocket." Your results may vary depending on quality of water, dirt and pocket that you repeat this test in.

My favorite 'beater' Spyderco is a Tenacious. I'm not a fan of the liner lock, or the 8cr in general (although for whatever reason I've had _much_ better experiences with Spyderco's China 8cr than Kershaw's), but that knife pretty much just takes whatever I throw at it and keeps going.
