We found some safety issues with the Neely lock. The button lock was one I was working on when covid hit.

!!!
That's super exciting.
One of the only things I don't like about the Sage 5 is that the lock release is stiff and the cutout is small, so it applies a lot of pressure to the finger that is closing it. I feel like a button lock would solve this handily.
Awesome! With so many Button Locks with aluminum handles I'm kinda hoping for an aluminum handle Sage! The Sage2 was the thinnest overall thickness of the bunch.
A CBBL sage would have me trying to stuff $20 bills into my computer. The M4 Sage lw really solidified that knife’s status as my favorite 3” Spyderco.

If this happens, I hope they rework the pattern from the BHQ PM2. It is too aggressive.

Agreed. I was thinking smooth aluminum like the Protech.
Yes, we're due, but capacity issues have slowed that train. I'll see what I can do?

Hope springs eternal for a Neely lock Sage :)

I see, that's too bad. I like the lock, have an old Timberline but besides the lock it is not an overly impressive knife. However i am glad to see any new Sage lock variant!
If you have a Neely prototype i'd gladly adopt it, i could even sign a contract that if i hurt myself with it i won't blame Spyderco :)

Button lock! (Auto Sage would be even cooler).
I believe Sal said he wouldn't do an Axis style lock out of respect for Benchmade in the past.
It would be very strange if he did. It wouldn't be Spyderco's style. Spyderco is probably the most innocent company when it comes to stealing other people's ideas.

Spyderco would never STEAL ideas of course, but nothing wrong in honoring a lock design of another company in a Spyderco if they find an arrangement that is fine with Benchmade (even though the patent on the axxis lock is expired anyway as far as I know)- ?
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

It is. What I mean is that Spyderco prefers to pioneer new ideas rather than doing what everyone else is doing. Every decent yet boring company is now incorporating an axis lock.

I see! And agree.
Just in case of the Sage series, I guess things might be different, since the motto here actually IS to display and showcase and give credit to various (also) already existing locks in one and the same platform - ?
