Love carrying small fixed blades when possible. I tend to pocket carry with a kydex sheath. Been carrying the following little fixed blade lately. UKPK for scale.

I've shared this testimony before but it's been a while. My late best friend who died in 2015 bought a Spyderco STREETBEAT model from me about 5 years prior to his departure from the planet. He rigged up a very smart designed ankle sheath and he EDCed his STREETBEAT for quite some time. I had offered him a couple of Spyderco folders to try out but he was completely sold on the STREETBEAT model as his "GO-To" blade for every day uses.

The STREETBEAT is one fixed blade I've actually considered carrying as an EDC. However I live in a major suburb of Kansas City, MO USA and I'm much more comfortable and confident carrying any one of my several Spyderco folders. But if I did ever decide to EDC any fixed blade it would be something in the size range of the STREETBEAT or something of similar size.

I do at times. How you carry it makes all the difference. I prefer IWB around 3-4 o clock, or horizontal on my belt around 1 o clock.
I'm definitely an IWB at 11 guy. I basically run the handle over my belt buckle so it sits close to my body and then draw with my right hand.

I've rotated a lot of small fixed blades for EDC. I have a whole stable of Bradford Guardian 3s, which I started collecting because they were available in a whole range of steels and I wanted to compare (this was back when the Province had been announced and I wanted to try 4v/v4e but it was hard to find). For a production small fixed blade EDC, it's definitely my favorite. I've tried various Spyderco and other offerings (the Enuf Salt SE (https://www.spyderco.com/catalog/detail ... epfoot/824) was the best Spyderco for me) and the Guardian kept coming out on top.

At this point, I have pretty much settled on my Chad Kelly Coop as my EDC fixed blade. If Spyderco did a collaboration of this knife I'd probably buy a couple, although I don't see anything challenging this custom as my fixed blade EDC of choice. I'd probably carry a production variant in situations with some chance of loss (I engage in potential knife loss activities on most days), but Chad's sheath is fantastic and it retains the blade extremely well in every situation I've been in.

I am about to give an EDC fixed blade a try, but Spyderco does not really offer much that would work well (especially more towards urban environment). I have Ark SE coming in (if it ever arrives - apparently shipping from SA is not particularly reliable, it has been about 4 weeks already) and have White River M1 in MagnaCut on pre-order (expensive!). I will most likely end up making a knife myself though.

I've tried and I've succeeded and failed. It's a complicated question. I have ways that are doable, but still just not as convenient as a folder. At least I've gained carry methods for the times I really feel like I need a fixie. Realistically I've found that the folders I have are more than strong enough even for outright abuse, so I think it's more of a mental concern than a real world need.

I used to exclusively carry a fixed blade knife, but haven’t in many years.

I am, however, looking forward to the Swick 6.

Carry a Mule all the time, and at the same time as I carry a folder too. I'm not sure how it is uncomfortable to some. It's a small, mostly unobtrusive blade. Try carrying a bowie like an NL1 and you won't even notice a Mule, LOL.

I went through the Street Beat discussion thread and pulled some pictures showing different carry methods. EDCing a fixed blade is all about finding a carry method that is comfortable, convenient and legal. Once you do that it's as easy to carry as a folder in many situations.

Pocket carry with an aftermarket clip:

Image

Pocket carry with a g-clip (I think ulticlips work better for this, lower profile and better retention):

Image

Armatus horizontal sheath for front of belt carry (Extremely convenient - If you're new to FB EDC I would start here with something around the size of a Street Beat or Izula 2):

Image

Paracord loops. You can loop the end around your belt then pull the sheath through for IWB carry, a method Mr. Janich has often discussed.

Image

Simple paracord loop. You thread your belt on to the loop and tuck the sheath IWB in the desired carry position. This method is awesome if you wear belts all the time. I've gone back to g clips because I can carry FB's more easily when wearing pants or shorts with no belt, but this method carried flatter than a g clip:

This thread has some good discussion on the subject:

Over the past 2 weeks I've found that carrying a fixed blade is tricky compared to a folder. My issue is sitting....haven't figured that out yet and am having problems. I'm still carrying my Spyderco Native Chief everyday.

If I had loser fitting jeans, this might not be an issue. So I'll be ordering those as well.

My preferred endgame is 2 or 3 Spyderco Nighsticks, because they are daggers, have beautiful look to them, and are sharpened on only one side. Right now I'm using Les George Galvo daggers, excellent knives with bad "clips."

I need to work on this everyday and get a comfortable location for carrying, but gave up for a day or two. I'll go back to it again, maybe tomorrow. I think that the issue is the knife that I am using now has Ulti-Clips(NOPE, not even Ulti-Clips on the kydex sheaths, but I have Chatenuga leather sheaths for the knives that do have Ulti-Clips and I'll try them). Moving to Tek-Locks will fix the issue in all cases I am almost 100% sure.

BLADE TECH, TEK LOCKS

I had the same issue as well. Sitting. It honestly took a little getting used to but at first you really feel & notice it, then after a couple days you adjust and don’t really notice anymore. You gotta commit. I find carrying IWB at 1 o clock is perfect using an Ulticlip. I also slightly angle the Carry so its clipped in diagonally and doesn’t jab my gut when I sit down. Fits right in that diagonal hip crease at 1 o clock. Give it another shot
I appreciate your response. My problem is I'm 62 with "Dunlaps Disease." My belly "dun lapped over my belt." Hahahaha. I weigh just 233lbs and I'm 5ft-8inches and I have a very low metabolism so losing weight is like pulling teeth. I'm trying to lose 50+ lbs right now. If I can lose the weight, I'll have mounting options galore. I'll figure something out.

;)

Vivi: Love the Armatus horizontal sheath setup! I have one for a Bradford Guardian 4 and it's great.

standy99: The clips on my kydex sheath for my Les George Galvo daggers is similar to the clip on your knife. To me it is not too handy, and I prefer Tek-Locks where you can mount the knife in any of almost 360 degrees.

Done this a few times with fixed blades

Image

This was more of a joke but still plausible.
Image

This allows the knife to be moved around when you sit.

Image

With a nylon drop loop this worked well too.

Image

Found the picture of horizontal front carry and also inverted carry. The sheath was custom and I told them it would be carried this way so it's very tight.
