... i'm looking for a tough, corrosion-resistant fixed blade that isn't too hard to sharpen. :)
Z-max will not be what you're looking for. It is not tough, not corrosion resistant and it is not easy to sharpen. Magnacut would be an ideal choice for what you're looking for. :)
I don’t think magnacut is hardly available besides from the few custom makers that got some from the first batch. It’s a relatively new steel, only been one production run of it so far I believe. When it does become. ilBle grab some ASAP though lol

thanks. that's what i thought i was seeing. you all enjoy.
Marking my calendar. I'm going to have to break away from work for this one, but I am going to try to get in on the drop. Good luck to all--this is going to be a feeding frenzy and the eBay prices will be insane.
I’m in! I have the Maxamet Mule and look forward to trying to compare them. On paper this doesn’t look too much different than Maxamet but we shall see!
I have had absolutely zero issue sharpening Maxamet and expect this to be no different.

That's right, it's brand-new. I am one of those that has some of the first pour that quickly sold out. But, more is coming. It's way too good for Spyderco not to use it. When it does arrive it will fit the description Ladybug93 gave perfectly, and I expect it's going to become a favorite steel for a lot of people :D .

Is there any sort of a heads up when they become available or do I need to just check here (and there) obsessively until they're posted?
I would also love to know if there is any type of heads up on this. Also all three #28, #29, #31 mules have a listed price of $50, does that mean that will be their price? Finally what's makes the z-max steel version the "best" one or the one to get of the three?
Hi, WilliamMunny:
Welcome to our forum. We typically post an announcement on the forum within 1-2 weeks before a new Mule Team is released.
Yes, the three upcoming Mule Teams are all $50/each. The price can vary between Mule Teams, but the next three are all the same price.
Simply amazing that not only are there are mules but Spyderco is willing to work with such steels as Z max and Maxamet .I remember the days when I got laughed at for asking for steels like Cruwear . Spyderco shattered the barriers that were in place and seems like there is no real limits now. :)
And I'm glad there is the limit of 1 per person. It helps me to get mules that are highly anticipated like this one.
I've been watching this forum for a while, hoping to have the chance to check out a Mule! Love my other Spyderco knives, and the idea of building and testing a super-steel fixed blade is really appealing.
So, the Micarta scale material, G10 liners and Corby bolts are already on their way...and I'll just have to be on the stick to get one!
Thank you, Spyderco, for providing this opportunity!

Hey JoWa... Welcome to Spydieville! :spyder:
Which kind of micarta did you go with?

Thanks for the warm welcome! I picked up some green canvas micarta and lime green g10 liner.

Ha, Joe I had just started following or joined the forum when you were pushing for Cruwear. I distinctly recall reading your posts, specific to the Grey Cruwear Military, if I recall correctly. It sounded like the bee's knees (and it still is!). Those were the days, and yes we absolutely are in another place now!
Not kitchen duties (wet = corrosion)
Not an ideal outdoors steel (not tough, not stainless)
Not a blade for accidentally hitting metal or stone (likely to chip)
Cutting carpet, cardboard, other soft but abrasive materials...?

You guys are scaring me on this steel. Prone to chipping and rust plus hard to sharpen… Sounds like a lot of negatives for some extra edge retention.
I was looking for something like a high end general use bushcraft knife. Is z-max the the totality wrong steel for this? Would z-wear be a better choice?
