In another thread, S30V in Sage is not premium enough.
Now, S30V in Endura is like **** yeah baby.
S30V, the most premium nonpremium budget high-end very good mediocre stainless steel, since 2001.

Yea, crazy. I’ve been happy with s30v on any knife for a while. It’s perfect for my uses. The only thing that may be one step up for me would be an m390 version. And with the m390 Delica already, there is hope

Hahaha, you're not kidding. Best part is, you could stamp just about any high end steel ID on a blade that is actually S30V, (besides rust prone steels, tool steels) and probably 90 out of 100 people wouldn't even know it.

I asked for one of those last father's day, but I must not be okay enough. :(

s30v is a steel that I have zero issue with. Maybe in $200+ knives it's becoming unacceptable, but I don't generally spend that much on knives.

I might grab one of these if I get the opportunity. My wife is unlikely to steal an endura like she did my teal dragonfly. Thank you, tiny women's pockets!

Thank you for mentioning this. I was able to get two. And happy I didn’t miss it. Been waiting for a s30v Endura for some time. And with sals mark, it just looks perfect. Thanks again Julia

I am totally with you in that S30V is a great steal and more than "premium" enough for me personally (and I would not need any other steel from a practical point of view)

But I think the point in that other thread is more that in the light of that Spyderco DOES variants in different steels (and handle colors, and...) for many knives anyway and many, many people like that, than why not also for the Sage 5 LW?

You mean 90 out of 100 of generally all knife users out there, right?
Cause I think among active members on this forum it should and would be a higher percentage.
If I consider steels I have actual experience with, even I myself (really NOT "good at steels" at all! ) would perceive the difference between lets say S30V and ZDP 189, or S30V and VG10 - or to put it differently: Would become suspicious if I actually used and sharpened a ZDP or VG10 knife, that was sold to me as S30V...

You two crack me up!

I don’t care for the steel, and I’ll leave it at that, but my girls dig this color. C’mon Spyderco, let’s have a “teal” Ladybug!

I would bet that many of us "afi" types couldn't differentiate vg-10 vs s30v in a truly blind knife use experiment. Certainly almost no average knife users would have any clue. If you want some interesting viewpoints look at reviews of say a traditional Buck knife using 420J2 steel on Amazon and see how many say it holds a great edge. Or even the trashiest mtech or similar knives which have probably horrible and eratic heat treatment of their low grade steels. Its all relative, but most people have no clue. I'd further surmise that only those educated on steel properties and who are doing a lot of work and sharpening with their knives would probably qualify as being able to decipher a difference in use between vg-10 and s30v. I'll take either one any day and be just as happy.

Interesting... I honestly consider myself as really not experienced and skilled at all when it comes to steels. But at the latest when I have to sharpen my let's say S30V PM2 and VG10 Endura, even I certainly notice that this goes quicker and easier with VG10.. and this is true also for edge retention (S30V or HAP 40 better than VG10) when I perform roughly the same amount of work in the same tasks with folders in that different steels..

That being said: I'd also take S30V or VG10 and be perfectly happy with either one... :)

Steal the teal! Love it. :D

I’m Interested to see what happens at my house with this one. My wife doesn't like folders with over 3in blades, but LOVES this color. My teal dragonfly became her teal dragonfly about 30 seconds out of the box. I want to keep the endura but I'm not too hopeful.
