I thought the big issue was what came out about Benchmade's political donations.

I'm staying neutral. No strong opinions tbh.

The issue isn't for a lot of people BM cutting up some junk guns, but the fact they have been financially supporting some highly anti 2A politicians.

People seem to have forgot how BM ripped off Spyderco, and just recently tried to screw Doug Ritter. Maybe all this is just karma.
Firstly I thought it odd that they would support those political affiliations but they arnt a firearm company and have their own affiliations- who knows perhaps someone in a position of power there lost someone due to gun violence or perhaps not, they are free to support the political positions they want arnt they?

Yes, they are. It’s just bad business when most of your customers support the 2nd amendment. Similarly to how they can support who they want, so can knife buyers. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Did they rip off spyderco? I don’t know about that what’s the story there?
they discontinued the Ritter models, I’m guessing that’s just business (haven’t looked too deep into it), not like me Ritter is hard up for makers to work with though.
Well I'm Canadian so maybe I have a differn't perspective. But here in Canada they first heavily restricted guns, now they are trying to heavily restrict knives by banning the importation of many types. You see the same pattern in Britain and even NYC first restricted guns, and now has the dumbest knife laws in America. If it happened in all those places it will happen the US.

I could be getting the story slightly wrong but Benchmade started adding Spydie holes to their knives. Spyderco said hey wait a sec that's out thing and sued BM but unfortunately lost. People may not know this but it was Spyderco that helped benchmade get going in the early 90's so I feel like that was a huge stab in the back.

Houge is actually making a knife for Doug Ritter, but it does sound like Doug and BM parted ways with some bad blood.

Nothing will happen-
From what I understand the folk BM support have been those against bump stocks, limited mag size and so on- not anti second amendment.
But even if they are anti 2A that’s fine, they arnt required to take the same view as the customer base- not that I know the political leanings of their customer base.

My understanding is the BM pay for the use of the hole, it’s a liscenced thing, not a big deal. not sure if that’s how it started however.

There may be bad blood there but so what?
Without knowing the three sides (his, theirs and the truth” it’s hard to factor that

I believe this “revelation” came after the brouhaha about the actual destruction had raised a stink.

The “gun community” has a trigger like my PPQ. I don’t carry my PPQ because of its ultralight trigger, and I don’t listen to the “gun community” for the same reason (google “Jade Helm 15”).

I trust in the 2A and in the other rules of US law. I also trust that attempts at infringement, ceaseless though they may be (and some maybe encouraged by BM), will be put down as they are seen as such (as earlier inconveniences have...). Hey! America is a process, not a completed work.

Back to knives, look at Knife Rights’ slow but steady victories.

On a personal level I've been feeling a little salty.

I held out for years buying a BM, instead I've been buying tons of Spyderco's. I finally bought a BM only last week and this happens! Now I don't feel good about the purchase at all. I was actually going to buy a new 698 at the end of the month on pay day but I have cancelled those plans.

So you're among those who claim the "The Second Amendment only applies to flintlock muskets"?

That's certainly true, but it's also true that at least some portion of any knife company's customer base is going to fall into the "strongly Pro 2A" category. That's even more true for knife companies that have "tactical" knives in their lineups. The "strongly Pro2A" folks are not required to make future purchases of that company's products and, while some might, some will choose to take their business elsewhere.

Having fewer rounds in my gun than I’d like certainly affects my gun ownership. Not sure I know what you mean.

Does it actually effect you in reality or is this a theoretical issue

Well when I go to fire my 6th shot and it isn’t there because the government says so, yeah I feel the effect. ;)

I’m Canadian and a firearm owner. I’ve been doing this long enough to know what happens to American gun rights will affect me here in Canada. In fact it’s happening right now with my current government. They are using American gun issues to force change here in Canada even though the issue isn’t related.

Seems like extreme reactions with little basis in reality, however when a company helps their local police it shouldn’t hurt their business-
But to think that BM didn’t see it as a chance to get some good publicity would be erroneous I suspect.

I like BM more for it-
Frankly I think you lot like your guns and should keep them, but there does need to be better regulation - my understanding is that this looks to be the position they take too.

Needless to say I have to keep my guns in a safe to protect them now that we have Benchmade back in the house :)

Seems like much ado about nothing. A police department asked for a favor. BM did them a favor. Some guns got recycled. There are hundreds of millions more guns and plenty more manufactured every day. I haven't seen any info on whether those guns were illegal (no serial #) or used in murders. None of it has anything to do with the 2nd Amendment. Repealing the 2nd Amendment would take a constitutional amendment, which I don't see happening ever. All the fear just drives more gun and ammo sales.

BM donated to some political causes. Everyone is free to donate to what they want. That's America. All the people crying "socialist" and foaming at the mouth about "liberals" are decidedly un-American. The backbone of democracy is civil discourse.

Speaking of "extreme reactions with little basis in reality" - bump stocks got banned because of one single incident where a person used one while killing and injuring people. There's absolutely no evidence that could prove conclusively that using a bump stock allowed him to harm any more people than he'd have been able to harm if he'd used a gun without one. While I personally see bump stocks as just a silly way to burn ammunition quickly, and have no desire to own one, if that's how someone wants to spend their money, and they're not harming anyone, they should be allowed to do so.
